Job Summary:

The Windows Server Specialist provides the day-to-day global operational delivery of the Global Infrastructure Services (GIS) servers and storage capabilities in Global Operations (GO) as part of Global Infrastructure Services (GIS). This role is an individual contributor that provides technical support of a complex nature for the firm's server environment and associated hardware and operating systems. This professional applies knowledge of Windows and VMware operations practices as well as good hardware and infrastructure experience to various platforms. This position requires in-depth knowledge of the firm's infrastructure to resolve complex incidents and problems and to provide a stable and reliable infrastructure.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Provides support for infrastructure services hardware, operating system, and software platforms.

Incident, service request, changes and problem work (ITIL based).


  • Server builds and decommission.
  • Firmware/Driver upgrade / Systems Management Software.
  • Troubleshooting hardware and performance issues.
  • Knowledge on DELL family servers and blades.

Microsoft Windows Server:

  • Changes to configuration files such as; ini files, registry entries, etc.
  • Operating system tune up (performance and security)
  • Basic Active Directory management (users and computers, sites and zones, GPO management, etc)
  • NTFS File systems migrations, extensions, expansions & shrinks.
  • Terminal services/remote desktop access to servers.
  • System/Server recovery (Disaster Recovery basic knowledge).
  • General server administration tasks and activities.
  • Software Installations.
  • Scripting and automation (visual basic scripting, batch, WMI and/or Powershell).
  • Performance analysis/troubleshooting.
  • Installation/configuration and troubleshooting of MS Distributed file systems and Replication - DFS & DFS-R.
  • Installation/configuration and troubleshooting of MS Clusters - Failover cluster management.


  • MPIO configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Logical volume creation, expansion and shrink.
  • SAN/NAS/DAS experience.

Technical writing:

Creation and modification of work instructions, reference and technical manuals and procedures documentation.

VMware vCenter:

  • Template updates.
  • Virtual hardware upgrade.
  • VMware tools update.

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

  • This role must make decisions about applying the right technical solutions to problems and to drive issues to resolution. When issues cannot be resolved, must drive escalation to higher support levels.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and be able to prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to work and team with a multitude of different people across teams, regions and organizations
  • Ability to deal efficiently with escalations and difficult situations/people under pressure, such as restoring services

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Large scale Windows Systems Administration experience (Windows 2003/2008 Servers)
  • Experience in maintaining mission critical production systems running in a data center environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of Dell and HP server hardware.
  • Excellent knowledge of Dell blade server hardware.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Active Directory administration experience
  • Understanding of IP protocols, networking and domain administration.
  • Experience in working with diverse and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong working knowledge in ITIL Service Management systems such as ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.
  • Ability to work and team effectively with clients, management and its staff members.
  • Proactive, organized
  • Able to prioritize tasks, multitasking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills- must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.

Other Requirements:

The role may also require the periodic allocation of additional time on the job to support multiple demands and escalating issues or to accommodate teams or staff in other time zones.

Job Requirements:


  • Degree in Computer Science/Management or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.


  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 / 5 yrs
  • VMware ESX Virtual Center - vSphere / 1 yr

Certification Requirements:

  • ITIL Foundations v3
