Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally, with annual sales generally in excess of $5 million. Our 10 major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Insurance, Wells Fargo Securities, and Principal Investments. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

The Wholesale Control (WC) organization serves as the front line risk management organization within the Wholesale Banking group of Wells Fargo supporting the Wholesale businesses with risk strategy, implementation, and execution.  The Wholesale Control team is accountable to assess and effectively manage risks across all risk types and Wholesale businesses delivering an integrated view of risks, producing a sustainable control environment, and instilling a culture of strong risk management.  The team is responsible to identify and assess risks, design and implement controls, and execute and monitor the controls to ensure they are working effectively to manage risk across Wholesale.  Wholesale Control interfaces with Independent Risk Management and Audit to drive comprehensive and consistent implementation of regulatory and corporate risk policies and programs across Wholesale. 

The Business Initiatives Consultant 3 (BIC3) will be a member of the Wholesale Control & Workforce Strategy & Business Engagement team within the Wholesale Control organization.  Most immediately, the BIC3 will work in partnership with various partners towards develop the implementation strategy for our workforce components.  This role will be highly visible, demanding, rewarding and will provide the opportunity to help transform Wholesale culture as an integral element of our business model and practices.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio to compose correspondence and develop presentations
  • Handle confidential correspondence, materials, records, and issues with sensitivity and discretion
  • Ensure high risk issues are promptly escalated and resolved appropriately, including securing immediate senior management attention
  • Evaluate each transformation initiative and its implementation progress across Wholesale Control to ensure that operational & regulatory compliance risks are considered, prioritized, and appropriately controlled and managed.   
  • Manage relationships and foster a collaborative team environment with Wholesale Control leadership, independent risk management, legal, audit and multiple resources
  • Contribute to a high performing risk management organization that meets heightened risk management expectations.
  • Engage key partners to develop a workforce strategy framework
  • Consult with the business to ensure business needs are understood and supported appropriately
  • Encourage sustainable business-level process improvements by helping to manage change management activities, stakeholder trainings, and communications in collaboration with Wholesale support teams
  • Provide consistent status updates and management reporting on implementation plan, activities, and achievements

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Candidates within the preferred locations (Minneapolis, MN; Charlotte, NC; Richmond, VA) will be considered. Other Wells Fargo locations may be considered.



Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: project management, implementation, or strategic planning



Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of workforce management planning and execution
  • Ability to execute in a fast paced, high demand, environment while balancing multiple priorities
  • Experience with financial services businesses in a regulated environment
  • International or wholesale banking exposure; preferably within Wells Fargo
  • International or wholesale banking operations exposure; preferably within Wells Fargo



Other Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading large scale transformation projects or programs.
  • Working knowledge across enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance.
  • Understanding of best-practice risk management techniques across financial services industry, specifically within Wholesale Control.
  • Experience with regulatory driven initiatives surrounding business operations, processes, and customer interactions and where they manifest risk.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships within the business and enterprise risk function.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions and controls aligned with business/customer processes.
  • Deep understanding of risk framework, corporate/business policies, and programs to translate into plans for the business, function and/or risk type.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability that embodies the Wells Fargo Vision and Values and leadership competencies.
  • Ethical integrity and demonstrated ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate.
  • Strong analytical ability used to identify risks and confidently raise issues, escalate early and engage in constructive credible challenge and will do so independently when necessary.
  • Proven ability to proactively manage and resolve conflict and effectively defend decisions with objective rationale.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate analysis and relay to senior management in the form of clear actions to take.
