Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally.  Our nine major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and the Investment Portfolio.  We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

Wells Fargo Securities, LLC, a registered Futures Commission Merchant (FCM), seeks a qualified candidate to market and execute commodity derivatives across the commodity markets with clients based around the world. An understanding of industrial metals, precious metals, energy and bulk commodities is a requirement. Currently, the team works closely with the Equities & Credit metals/mining/natural resource groups as well as the Corporate & Index Commodities units within the greater bank. We are a close-knit, dynamic and entrepreneurial team with commercial experience and a passion for the commodity markets. Individuals who thrive in fast-paced, changing environments and are energized by lively markets and outside-of-the-box thinking will fit in well. We generate trade ideas consistently across the commodity markets and strive to build strong relationships with hedge funds, asset managers, merchants, corporates and other institutional clients through rigorous market analysis.

In this role the candidate will be responsible for:

  • Customer and house trade execution
  • Building and maintaining a customer pipeline
  • Partnering with internal Relationship Managers and other bank sales/trading team members to develop cross-selling opportunities within Wells Fargo’s existing Securities customer base
  • Generating trade ideas through a combination of detailed fundamental micro & macro analysis as well as financial modeling

The ideal candidate will have a hard work ethic, integrity, steadfast determination, attention to detail and curiosity. The ability to execute trades quickly while error-free will allow the candidate to achieve success.

The candidate will report directly to the Head of the Metals Desk. Hours of work are closely aligned to London's open/close. There must be interest and commitment to arrive as early as 2:30am to 4:00am EST on a daily basis. Working an earlier shift equates to leaving the office earlier than the usual U.S. Equities close/5:30pm departures seen with other trading desks.

This position will be located in the US but will be required to work 3rd shift to cover International desks.

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in capital markets, industry experience within the specific sector of the position, or a combination of both

  • Knowledge of China's economy, the drivers of growth, the importance of commodities on a supply/demand level as well as being fluent in Mandarin
  • Proficiency or fluency in Spanish, Portuguese and/or Swiss/German preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel – across the US, to Canada, South America, Europe and/or Asia
  • Ability to travel 25-50% of the time
