Watson Health - Senior Software Engineer

Job Description
We are a software engineering team within IBM Watson Health Imaging. We are empowered to build the first generation of software applications and services that use our advanced algorithms. Our Care Advisor products will use AI to analyze patient medical data including medical images to make radiologists’ and cardiologists’ work more efficient.

You will design and develop AI medical imaging software systems following industry standard methodologies including Agile. You will participate in the entire software development lifecycle (define, design, develop, integration, deployment, maintenance, support, etc.). This person will foster teamwork, innovation, and continual improvement. Bring your passion for building groundbreaking software products to the healthcare industry and help change lives.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate in cross-functional teams (development, product management, quality assurance, research, etc.) to understand requirements, processes and customer needs.
  • Develop, maintain, modify and support software code; create unit, acceptance and integration tests for software code; use build and deployment processes (CI/CD) to promote code to staging and production environments; manage and maintain deployments of software and operational platforms and environments (DevOps).
  • Implement code across entire stack from back-end databases, content processing pipelines and frameworks, middle-tier application and business logic, to end-user interfaces and UIs.
  • You will work with software engineering tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, Git, Jenkins, Gradle, and Nifi.

Required Skills:
  • 3 years of software development experience in complex software environments.
  • Java/J2ee programming skills; Back-end and middle-tier
  • Demonstrated software engineering skills in developing or modifying large-scale software systems where scalability, availability, performance and security are important.
  • Experience with microservice architecture and multi-tiered software architectures.
  • Familiar with DevOps and CI/CD.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related areas.

Preferred Skills:
  • 6 years of progressive software engineering experience
  • Experience working with medical imaging, medical devices, common healthcare information protocols and standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, XDS and/or IHE; working with healthcare systems and platforms such as PACS, EMR, EHR, HIS and/or RIS.
  • Interest or experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Data Analytics and complex visualizations.

Location: Cambridge, MA ; Boston
