Vice President, Field Engineering and Operations


Description

The Vice President, Field Engineering and Operations is responsible for leading the engineering and operations functions for the regional network, platform, and services infrastructure, serving residential and commercial markets.  The responsibilities include planning, deployment, fulfillment and service assurance duties for all technologies and services  This individual will lead and develop a diverse team of engineers, technologists and technicians to ensure the delivery of a highly reliable and available suite of products and services.  Additionally, the individual will collaborate cross functionally with Enterprise and Regional partners and is a knowledgeable and contributing member of the regional Cox Senior Team.

  • Leads and contributes to the business strategy for the following departments:
  • Edge Serving Facilities (MTCs and STCs) – responsible for ensuring edge facilities operate properly at all times, and assures the MTC maintains its stability while Introducing further generation technologies.
  • Metro Network (IP, Ethernet, SONET etc..) – Ensures Broadband Engineering and Operations teams develop and monitor platform to ensure optimal system performance, while planning for network growth and reliable future generation technologies in the residential and commercial markets.
  • Facilities Management – Responsible for the installation, maintenance and operation of technical telecommunications facilities (MTC, STC & OTN), including AC/DC power plants, HVAC,
  • FM-200, and all other environmental systems serving our facilities.
  • Provides oversight to ensure process improvements and/or equipment, network design changes, etc. are completed to improve and sustain  network reliability and operating SLA’s.  both residential and commercial technology platforms.
  • Contributes and ensures adherence to network performance measurements and goals, as defined by technology standards and operating SLA’s.
  • Creates and directs operational plans and activities, balancing quality and speed that result in accomplishing business strategies and financial goals of the operation.
  • Works effectively with Enterprise and Regional Technology counterparts to position and ensure that Regional needs and operational requirements are defined and resourced.
  • Manages projects and daily operations to achieve favorable capital and operational expense objectives, while maintaining high levels of reliability. 
  • Implements notification and escalation processes, in partnership with our service assurance organization for outages to ensure minimal customer impact and sufficient organizational notification of planned upgrades and outages.
  • Partners with Enterprise Engineering and Operations to facilitate successful execution of fulfillment, deployment and service assurance of Cox services.
  • Provides expert guidance and problem resolution to service assurance and creates/implements appropriate Methods and Procedures for network augmentation and maintenance.
  • Provides expert guidance for planning, administration, and coordination of network engineering functions, integrating future and legacy technologies into customer facing services.
  • Participates as needed on company or cross-functional teams or committees to study and resolve complex network and strategic business problems.
  • Creates workforce and staffing plans and ensures availability of human capital necessary to accomplish planned business results.
  • Ensures adherence to all FCC mandated record keeping and operational requirements
  • Develops organizational leadership capabilities, via supervision, holding team members accountable to high operational standards
  • Participates as an effective, engaged and accountable member of the senior team, with responsibilities to include overall system strategy, operational success and direction. 
  • Exhibits a high competence in management and people leader behaviors, as defined by Cox Communications
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: 

Minimum of BS/BA in related field preferred, or substantial cable system certifications or training, along with highly skilled leadership results required.. Advanced degree a plus. 

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing capital and operating budgets and cross-functional teams in a network environment that include 5 years in Telecommunications.

  • Other:  Valid {Regional} Drivers License with driving record that meets Cox standards.

Preferred:

  • Minimum 10 years leadership experience leading complex technologies including voice, video, data, IP RF, Docsis, metro and transport networks and sophisticated levels of technology integration. 
  • Strong focus in critical/technical facilities including dynamic growth.
