Wells Fargo Compliance is the company’s compliance second line of defense function, providing company-wide leadership, standards, support, and independent oversight to ensure that all business groups abide by applicable laws, rules, regulations and regulatory guidance (regulatory requirements), meet compliance responsibilities, and manage compliance risks. Wells Fargo Compliance credibly challenges management decisions, business processes and activities, and evaluates and assesses adherence to applicable regulatory requirements. It provides appropriate analysis, reporting, and escalation to senior management and the Board of Directors, sets minimum standards for the company, and gives advice, guidance, and support for compliance risk management activities across the enterprise.

The Responsible Banking Compliance Team is part of the Consumer Compliance Team and is responsible for compliance risk oversight of UDAAP and Fair Lending across the enterprise.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Compliance Risk leader to join the Responsible Banking Compliance team in a critical role to lead development and implementation of a complaint analysis team in support of an effective and sustainable enterprise UDAAP Compliance Program. This person will lead teams of compliance professionals responsible to develop, implement and execute a sustainable, defined program for complaint analysis to proactively identify areas of emerging UDAAP risk, and to establish ongoing reporting on UDAAP risks and related issue management. This team will coordinate across the enterprise to work with business, risk and compliance leaders to fully implement a program to effectively leverage complaint data to identify emerging areas of emerging UDAAP risk, taking into account regulatory expectations and risk management practices. This position will be responsible to base this UDAAP complaints analysis program on well-defined and sustainable processes, supported by appropriate methodology, and to develop effective compliance reporting for the enterprise. This position will play a critically important role in assessing and mitigating UDAAP risks across the enterprise.

The UDAAP Compliance Complaints Analysis Team Leader will be responsible to lead development of a complaint program in support of an effective and sustainable enterprise UDAAP Compliance Program, and will take implementation through to sustainable business as usual with an effective and sustainable program. This person will develop and lead a team of subject matter experts with strong analytical skills to execute on the UDAAP complaint analysis program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead development, implementation and ongoing execution of a UDAAP complaint analysis program focused on proactively identifying potential UDAAP risks in large, highly complex business areas across the enterprise
  • Lead coordination with senior compliance and business leaders, including heads of businesses, Wells Fargo Audit Services and the Law Department to develop and implement the UDAAP complaint analysis program, including coordination to identify emerging UDAAP risks
  • Lead formulation and implementation of procedures and controls in support of the UDAAP complaint analysis program
  • Establish and manage a Complaints Analysis Team of compliance and data experts to drive development and implementation of the enterprise UDAAP complaint analysis program
  • Lead formulation and implementation of procedures for the analysis of reporting and underlying data from multiple vantage points to proactively identify area of potential UDAAP risk, as well as analysis of data quality for improvement and development of metrics for ongoing monitoring of potential UDAAP risk. Must also develop ongoing reporting on emerging areas of risk based on this analysis
  • Lead coordination with Complaint Oversight Group in the Conduct Management Office and line of business complaint areas to develop complaint modeling and analysis to provide ongoing analysis of customer complaints to identify areas of UDAAP risk. Will also lead coordination with the Ethics Office and related areas to build the process to analyze team member allegations to identify areas of UDAAP risk
  • Lead coordination with Testing and Validation Center of Excellence to develop UDAAP testing activities as needed to address emerging risks, including establishing schedules and scopes, coordinating materials for specific activities and targeted reviews, supporting back end research as needed, and working with business on results and recommendations
  • Coordinate with New Business Initiatives (NBI) Process, working with enterprise systems of record (i.e. SHRP, RANBI), Third Party Compliance Oversight team in developing and implementing the UDAAP Compliance Program
  • Make key decisions guided by broad enterprise policies and objectives and guidance from compliance leadership, and coordinating activities across multiple businesses and risk areas, involving multiple systems and operating platforms
  • Responsible for issue management related to UDAAP complaint analysis program, including coordination of targeted research and root cause analysis
  • Build and maintain strong and constructive relationships with regulators and WFAS
  • Effectively managing change and creating a culture of “compliance awareness” where all team members share in accountability

This position requires a high degree of compliance and UDAAP expertise, as well as extensive knowledge of the banking industry. Requires exceptional communication skills and will involve extensive interaction with executive leaders, senior management, the Law Department, WFAS, and cross-functional teams to develop and implement the UDAAP complaint analysis program. Will develop and manage a team of experts and must have experience in successful design and execution of complex project plans, building sustainable processes, and leading cross-functional/virtual teams. Execution will include ensuring program sustainability and transitioning all components of developing UDAAP Program to ongoing BAU. Must have a high degree of operational skill to manage support for multiple competing assignments with challenging deadlines.

Specific duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead development of plan to implement effective, sustainable UDAAP complaint analysis program, including close coordination with risk and business areas across the enterprise
  • Lead execution on implementation of plan to establish UDAAP complaint analysis program through demonstrated sustainability for BAU
  • Lead coordination with stakeholders across the enterprise in designing and implementing UDAAP complaint analysis program, including Third Party Compliance Oversight team, Testing and Validation Center of Excellence and Conduct Management Office
  • Build and manage Complaint Analysis Team to implement ongoing, effective and sustainable UDAAP complaint analysis program
  • Develop process and standards for sustainable, ongoing reporting related to complaint analysis, emerging UDAAP risks and analysis of team member allegations
  • Lead development of the process to analyze reporting and underlying data from multiple vantage points to proactively identify area of potential UDAAP risk
  • Lead coordination across the enterprise for issue management, tracing emerging risks and trends, and coordination of targeted research and root cause analysis related to the UDAAP complaint analysis program
  • Lead coordination with Testing and Validation Center of Excellence to develop UDAAP testing activities as needed to address emerging risks, including establishing schedules and scopes, coordinating materials for specific activities and targeted reviews, supporting back end research as needed, and working with business on results and recommendations


**Preferred locations: NC – Charlotte; CA – San Francisco; MN – Minneapolis; IA – Des Moines; OPEN to other locations throughout the U.S.



Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 8+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 4+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
  • 3+ years of management experience

  • Exposure to Wells Fargo s Shared Risk Platform (SHRP)
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Experience developing improvement processes and implementation strategies
  • Leadership skills including; coaching, training, and mentoring



Other Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of risk-based regulatory compliance including the industry and laws and regulations that apply to areas of responsibility
  • Strong operational skills and experience executing on implementation of complex initiatives
  • Strong skills in coordinating across many business lines and working in an environment with multiple systems and processes
  • Certifications or additional training applicable to areas of responsibility such as CRCM, CAMS, CIA, etc.
  • UDAAP experience/expertise
  • Experience evaluating and reporting on indicators of risk
  • Experience with risk reporting
  • Ability to partner on Issue Management


Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
