Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. We focus on three key risk areas: credit risk, operational risk and market risk. We help our management and Board of Directors identify and monitor risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and take appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

Wells Fargo Compliance is the company’s compliance second line of defense function, providing company-wide leadership, standards, support, and independent oversight to ensure that all business groups abide by applicable laws, rules, regulations and regulatory guidance (regulatory requirements), meet compliance responsibilities, and manage compliance risks. Wells Fargo Compliance credibly challenges management decisions, business processes and activities, and evaluates and assesses adherence to applicable regulatory requirements. It provides appropriate analysis, reporting, and escalation to senior management and the Board of Directors, sets minimum standards for the company, and gives advice, guidance, and support for compliance risk management activities across the enterprise.

The Responsible Banking Compliance Team is part of the Consumer Compliance Team and is responsible for compliance risk oversight of UDAAP and Fair Lending across the enterprise.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Compliance Consultant to join the Responsible Banking Compliance team and perform a significant leadership role developing, managing and performing independent, risk based UDAAP compliance assessments of products, services and processes across the enterprise. As part of the role, the successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to an enterprise wide UDAAP assessment program to evaluate and identify UDAAP risks across the enterprise, including risk management practices to assess, mitigate, and oversee effective control of these risks. This position will play a critically important role in assessing and mitigating UDAAP risks across enterprise functions.

The UDAAP Assessment Compliance Consultant responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, ongoing performance and monitoring of a risk-based, independent, enterprise wide UDAAP assessment program to ensure compliance with federal and state UDAAP / UDAP standards.

This includes:

  • Playing a key role in driving the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive enterprise UDAAP assessment program, which is a critically important part of the UDAAP compliance program
  • Requires a thorough examination of products, services and processes across the enterprise, including the largest, most complex and high risk business areas
  • Conduct a significant number of ongoing, thorough assessments of products, services and processes to assess UDAAP risk and identify specific areas of corrective action
  • Making key decisions guided by broad enterprise policies and objectives and guidance from compliance leadership, and coordinating activities across multiple businesses and risk areas, involving multiple systems and operating platforms
  • Responsibility for issue management and follow up, and working with businesses to communicate results and recommendations, as well as monitoring issues in enterprise systems of record (i.e. SHRP, RANBI) and drive to resolution
  • Coordinating with Testing and Validation areas as needed for additional testing activities to address areas of identified or emerging risk, including support of back end research as needed
  • Working closely with UDAAP Program Subject Matter Experts and compliance partners across the enterprise to address areas of identified risk and drive resolution
  • Assisting in maintaining relationships with key regulators and examiners to identify and influence areas of focus for UDAAP assessments
  • Mentor other members of Compliance and Business areas
  • Effectively managing change and creating a culture of “compliance awareness” where all team members share in accountability

This position requires a high degree of compliance and UDAAP expertise, as well as extensive knowledge of the banking and financial services industry. Requires exceptional communication skills and will involve interaction with executive leaders, senior management, the Law Department, Internal Audit, and cross-functional teams to identify UDAAP risks and manage related issues. Must have a high degree of operational skill to manage support for multiple assessments with challenging deadlines.

NC – Charlotte; CA – San Francisco; MN – Minneapolis; IA – Des Moines; OPEN to other locations throughout the U.S.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

  • Experience successfully escalating complex issues and tracking follow-through to completion
  • Experience communicating in both written and verbal formats with senior executive-level leaders
  • Experience developing improvement processes and implementation strategies
  • Exposure to Wells Fargo s Shared Risk Platform (SHRP)
  • Leadership skills including the ability to influence effectively in a matrix environment
  • Experience with governance and oversight requirements for regulatory and risk reporting
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of risk-based regulatory compliance including the industry and laws and regulations that apply to areas of responsibility
  • Strong operational skills and experience executing on implementation of complex initiatives
  • Strong skills in coordinating across many business lines and working in an environment with multiple systems and processes
  • Certifications or additional training applicable to areas of responsibility such as CRCM, CAMS, CIA, etc.
  • UDAAP experience/expertise
  • Knowledge and understand of risk assessments or compliance testing
