Training & Communications Coordinator

This global-focused position is responsible, with guidance and strategic direction from Global Procurement (GP) Business Excellence Manager and GP Director of Strategic Management, to develop, coordinate and ensure effective delivery of critical training and communication programs for the procurement function across the Abbott enterprise.


  • Assess current organizational capabilities and identify future training needs, in alignment with strategic initiatives and policy requirements
  • Create proposal for and monitor overall training and development plan
  • Deploy a variety of training sessions and formats across the enterprise, including central, divisional and delegated procurement functions, managed procurement service organizations, and various non-procurement functions (Finance, Legal, etc.)
  • Develop and conduct effective induction and orientation sessions for GP new hires
  • Monitor, evaluate and report out on training programs effectiveness, success and return on investment
  • Evaluate and recommend participation in annual conferences and memberships
  • Research, identify and internal and external training providers
  • Manage training & capabilities development budget


  • Coordinate GP communications team members to support communication needs of the GP organization, including:  administration of all employee meetings and periodic social events (e.g. Hail & Farewell), updates of procurement social board, etc.
  • Lead GP team to develop, administer efficient employee on-boarding and off-boarding process
  • Manage office space planning activities (e.g. assign spaces to new employees)
  • Distribute executive-approved messages via the One Procurement email
  • Coordinate and administer procurement all-employee meetings (agenda set by CPO), including coordination and efficient delivery of audio-visual requirements, handouts, etc.
  • Develop, modify and propose strategies to increase awareness of various procurement initiatives and strategies across the enterprise, including procurement staff, delegated procurement functions and, potentially, revenue division and corporate functions
  • Effectively convey management-approved messaging via One Procurement email, video, and meetings
  • Coordinate with Public Affairs as needed to develop GP senior leadership-approved external messaging
  • • Develop, administer, evaluate and report results of surveys, including surveys to assess impact of GP communications plan


  • Understand and maintain updated knowledge of training requirements across Abbott's policies (Procurement, Quality, etc.)
  • Ensure all required training is included in training plans for procurement function, including central, divisional, delegated and managed service staff
  • Monitor and document completion of all required training by GP employees
  • Support Financial, SOX and Quality audits by providing clear and complete documentation of all required training


  • Participate as key SME on cross-functional project teams driving initiatives that require training, capabilities development or communication from GP leadership
  • Proactively identify and capitalize on opportunities
  • Actively develop knowledge of procurement function, allowing for effective support and ability to develop and implement creative, workable solutions for the organization
  • Potentially manage one contingent worker with solid or dotted line reporting relationship, depending on dynamic needs of the organization 


Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) Education or Communication, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience


  • Minimum 4 years: Experience managing a variety of training programs or projects, with demonstrable knowledge over a breadth of training solutions
  • Minimum 4 years: Developing and delivering communications and/or training materials for multiple levels
  • Minimum 1 year: Managing budget and analyzing cost options
  • Extensive experience scheduling and organizing meetings, training sessions and other events, including coordinating and running audio-visual requirements
  • Substantial experience building or leading cross-functional teams, with demonstrated ability to set and communicate priorities to project teams, with proven ability to gain respect of internal and external partners to ensure successful build and roll-out of training or communication programs
  • Substantial experience managing multiple projects, while simultaneously working autonomously to accomplish objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in both independent and team setting
  • Excellent communication skills are critical
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook
