Technical Manager – Southfield, MI (1802743) Where the Chemistry Happens The Technical Manager is responsible for development and management of new coatings technology for the North American Automotive OEM Industry. The position is also responsible for managing the Intellectual Property strategy, competitor review process, and preparation and submission of IP in collaboration with Global IP Management and our technical strategy development in alignment with the goals of the automotive coatings business unit. You will maintain external scientific and business contacts within the industry including Customers, Suppliers, and other external partners and sustain global internal contacts within the R&D community and other technical, marketing, and business areas.   • Your cost optimization strategy skills will contribute to your successful management of formula costs while satisfying targeted margins and raw material expense reduction goals
  • Your understanding of patent and legal issues will impact BASF IP and patent needs and be a value add to opportunities related to business strategy as well as the preparation and submission of invention disclosures and patent applications
  • Your strong knowledge base of Ecology Health and Safety Standards and product regulations will help you serve on the BASF Safety Product Review Corporation team and ensure conformance to all corporate and government environmental, health, and safety policies within the assigned technology lane
  • Your international experience will lend greatly to your appreciation and continued mastery of market and industry trends and requirements, competitive landscapes and customer business knowledge and applications
  • You will direct the management of change (MOC) activities, training and knowledge transfer for the Technical Department
