Ethicon, Inc., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is hiring a Quality Assurance Technician III to join its Physical laboratory Department in its manufacturing site in Cornelia, Georgia. The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies—including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices—that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women’s health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon Surgical Care business combines products and services of two market-leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. The Quality Assurance Technician III reports directly to the Quality Assurance Laboratory Supervisor and is responsible for general laboratory support as well as routine testing in compliance with laboratory test methods and procedures to support the Manufacturing and timely delivery of product to customers. Responsibilities:
  • Sampling
  • Preparing sample labels
  • Independent analysis of routine samples using the applicable test methods
  • Logging in of samples into LIMS or manual system which would include logbooks and the maintenance of control numbers
  • Performing and monitoring routine testing using laboratory instruments (i.e. HPLC, GC, FTIR etc.)
  • Recognizing problems during the analysis
  • Initiating investigations for non-conforming laboratory test results
  • Performing daily calibration/verification checks on laboratory instruments
  • Making and recording observations and calculations
  • Collecting and preparing data for evaluation
  • Archiving documentation on testing that has been completed
  • Maintaining clean work area
  • Supporting laboratory housekeeping, environmental and safety initiatives
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by management
  • Working in team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner
  • Complying with all federally regulated programs
  • Adhering to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines
  • Complying with all job specific safety procedures and utilizing PPE when necessary
  • Complying with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions
  • Using test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, etc.) where applicable
  • Utilizing applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.)
  • Consistently meeting required work performance targets (RE’s), if applicable
  • Supporting LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives
  • Supporting Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care
  • Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation)
  • Consistently meets required Training due date targets
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred
  • A minimum of 4 years of related experience OR a minimum of 1 year related experience AND a Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of experience in a GMP laboratory environment performing progressively advanced duties at the Technician 2 Level highly preferred
  • Training in GMP and ISO requirements required
  • Ability to communicate in writing and orally required
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills required
  • Ability to work in a stressful/fast paced environment required
  • Ability to work and interact with co-workers to accomplish company goals in a team environment required
  • Strong analytical/problem solving required
  • Strong math skills required
  • Good computer and database management skills required
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must wear PPE as needed including safety glasses
  • Must be willing and able to meet the physical requirements of the role which includes: Lifting/carrying up to 15 lbs., standing, sitting, walking, repetitive hand motions (simple grasp, fine manipulation, computer entry), talking, hearing, hand & eye coordination
  • Vision requirements include: Far point acuity (microscope), near point acuity (looking at samples), color perception (color distinction) with blacks, blues, greens, violets and natural
  • Must be willing and able to work the day shift plus overtime as needed
