Systems Architect 6 Lead Teradata, Aster and Hadoop

Job Description

The IA Core Architecture team supports infrastructure and software design for platforms and applications in support of the DMI (Data Management and Insights) mission.  The systems collectively are in the 10 petabyte range, including associated applications, residing on over 2000 production/development servers, supporting over 200 distinct software components, running in five data centers. Environments include Unix (RHEL, SLES, AIX), Windows 2008 – 2012, and Mainframe. Architecture and infrastructure involves all phases of the development life cycle, from requirements, technology evaluation, system design, capacity forecasting, development and implementation. 

  1. Provides architectural guidance for the planning, analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of the organization's server-class infrastructure for our analytic ecosystem, including Teradata, Aster and Hadoop. Consults on all aspects of the hardware and software architecture including related support technology such as Ab Initio, and enterprise BI tools.
  2. Provides architectural guidance the most complex or critical data/ database management initiatives that typically involve multiple disciplines and multiple business groups, including responsibility for application design and integration with other systems.
  3. As the recognized technical expert, consults extensively with multiple client groups to provide strategic solutions, influencing long-range internal and enterprise level data/ database architecture and management strategies.
  4. Act as a leader and champion on technological advancements.
  5. Provides oversight, mentoring and leadership to less experienced staff.
  6. To be successful at this position, a combination of technical leadership skills, people skills, communication skills and process skills are required. A deep understanding of the MPP aspects of the hardware, software, and internals is needed in order to properly design the related infrastructure. In addition to the technical hardware / software skills, an advanced understanding of our LOB applications, security concerns and audit and compliance requirements is needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of information technology systems design and planning experience; in systems, applications, or architecture
  • 10+ years of experience in performance tuning technologies including data skew, statistics, Join Index, Partitioned Index, TASM rules, single AMP operations, query grid and intra or inter-datacenter database joins
  • 10+ years of experience in Teradata BCP approaches, use cases and approaches to fail-back
  • 10+ years of experience in Teradata database technology and products such as TASM, Unity, Datamover and Query Grid
  • 10+ years of experience with MPP systems and related network topologies
  • 10+ years of technology experience across multiple domains within infrastructure architecture

  • Experience with data streaming technologies and use cases
  • Experience with cloud-based computing
  • Experience with database virtualization and use cases
  • Experience with major database engines including Oracle, SQL Server and DB2
