Sr Account Analyst

This role reports to the Manager, Affiliate Operations and Reporting.  The position will provide support for HBO’s domestic subscription revenue business primarily by providing analytical and statistical information on subscriber and financial performance of assigned HBO affiliates.  Candidate will supervise an Account Assistant.

  • Provide analytical and statistical information surrounding annual subscription revenue of assigned HBO affiliates (including key accounts). Including, but not limited to:

    • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and yearly comparative analysis/financial reporting which allow for the examination of trends (e.g., subscriber and financial performance, P&L)

  • Evaluate and interpret contractual provisions and implement economic terms in the billing system, as well as set up accruals for proposed deals ensuring all information is current and accurate (e.g., revenue, subscribers, rates, payments) 

  • Supervise Account Assistant in affiliate correspondence, collection, review and keying of subscribers into billing system, and cash applications in A/R system 

  • Development, overall training and active involvement in performance management process for the Account Assistant 

  • Prepare journal entries for monthly accounting close process

  • Perform monthly account analyses and reconciliations to identify and resolve issues with affiliates

  • Establish audit scope of affiliates and work closely with affiliate and/or auditors to resolve outstanding issues

  • Research affiliate/industry financial information and assess business needs

  • Effectively communicate with affiliate’s financial management, as well as HBO’s Global Domestic Network Distribution, Legal and other areas of Finance

  • Lead or participate in special projects/task forces

  • Proactively identify and recommend process improvements in order to optimize efficiencies, improve the quality of analyses, and develop value-added executive summaries for Management


  • BS/BA in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline

  • Strong supervisory and staff development skills a plus, including ability to effectively coach staff

  • Minimum 3 years experience in Finance, Accounting or related field

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (e.g., general ledger, SOX requirements, internal/external audit requests), financial systems and reporting (e.g., Oracle E-Business Suite), and solid MS Office skills (strong Excel)

  • Strong work ethic and solid analytical, technical, organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and customer service skills

  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to handle multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully
