Senior Manager Process Safety & Loss Prevention

The primary responsibilities of this role, Sr. Manager Process Safety & Loss Prevention, are to:

 

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local Legislation and codes governing Process Safety Management and Bayer’s TOPPS-PPS programs. Manage the program of audits, surveys and insurance inspections of loss prevention in existing operations;
  • Review and recommend changes and improvements to the Director of HSES, following up to assure implementation and recommendations to eliminate deficiencies. Develops program documents, procedures and PPS standards to ensure compliance with TOPPS-PPS and Process Safety Management (PSM) process regulations and guidelines;
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Fire/Alarm and Fire Sprinkler systems and explosion prevention and protection systems, liaison with property and loss prevention insurance carriers and Global Risk Management Consultants (GRC) as well as the City Fire Department;
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, committee members, local representatives and institutional staff to formulate corrective actions;
  • Assess risk potential of hazardous operations in manufacturing, laboratory and research/ development and warehouse areas and develop policies and procedures as necessary;
  • Develop and implement processes for fire protection and alarm systems, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures to ensure employees life safety and the safety of facilities and plants;
  • Monitor all current information on regulations and requirements related to loss prevention. Conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA’s), manage our site process safety management program (PSM) and

    Risk Management Programs (RMP’s) and ensure a safe environment for the processes and facility. Comply with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards, Bayer PPS Directives and procedures;

  • Conduct A1- A4 safety reviews as the site PPS practitioner to support process improvements and facilities renovation projects;
  • Investigate and evaluate new process/plant safety and loss prevention/mitigation equipment for appropriateness.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering plus 8 years’, Master’s degree plus 4 years of directly related experience in environmental health and safety compliance or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Proficient OSHA & EPA regulatory knowledge;
  • Experience in leading cross functional PSM/PHA teams;
  • Knowledge of the methods and tools of project management and Risk Management;
  • Strong analytical skills to identify risks and prepare a balanced decision;
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to adjust presentation style to accommodate various audiences;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a wide customer base as well as with external regulatory agencies;
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines;
  • Integrity to fairly conduct independent safety reviews to achieve full compliance.
