Summary

Responsible for planning and managing labor relations activities. In partnership with the National Contract Negotiator and the Regional Leadership Team develops long-range contract negotiation strategies. Serves as subject matter expert and provides guidance to employees as required in labor and employee relations matters. Develops processes and procedures to drive positive employee relations as well as business department efficiencies, assists in development, and meeting of, departmental budgets.

Core Responsibilities

  • Counseling Human Resources and Operations management on the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements across 4 different bargaining units.
  • Supporting management in their hearing and drafting of first step grievances.
  • Hearing, drafting and issuing second step grievance responses.
  • Working with outside counsel to prepare for arbitration cases and unfair labor practice charge hearings.
  • Advising local leadership on various regional matters within the context of the collective bargaining agreements including change initiatives, discipline investigations and assessment, termination requests, and other areas as needed.
  • Serving as regional tactical lead for contract negotiations and collective bargaining by working with local leadership to form proposed changes and supporting HQ Labor team in executing overall bargaining strategy.
  • Owning the tracking of all grievances and responses, arbitration hearings and awards, contract changes via negotiations, settlement agreements, and other areas as needed.
  • Supporting local leadership and HQ Labor team in the intake and resolution of labor escalations region-wide.
  • Working with Employee Relations function in supporting regional engagement strategy by running reports and tracking trends of regional eNPS Survey responses across functions, assisting in the investigation and drafting of employee issues as needed, and providing input from a labor perspective on action plans regarding Work Environment Index and annual YourVoice survey strategy.
  • Assisting ER/LR Lead in conducting labor training for both leadership and front-line employees.
  • Manages the Region's Labor Relations function including but not limited to long-term strategy, planning and research.
  • Interfaces with union officials on all labor issues.
  • Manages the development, administration, and maintenance of Labor Relations communications, contract interpretation, and reference manuals regarding contract administration.
  • Employee and Labor Relations strategies and initiatives that drive business objectives.
  • Prepares reports, using records of actions taken concerning grievances, discipline, arbitration, and related labor relations activities to identify problem areas.
  • General Employee Relations responsibilities/experience.
  • Manages tracking and processing of Open Door and Comcast Listens complaints.
  • Ensures regional stakeholders are responding in a timely and thorough manner. Reviews complaints through Ethics Points and approves for next level review.
  • Conducts field investigations into escalated Employee Relations issues.
  • Acts as a YourVoice survey project lead. Works with each business group's YourVoice Action teams.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
  • Other project work and responsibilities as assigned.

Education Level

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent

Field of Study

  • Human Resources, Labor Relations or Equivalent

Certifications

  • PHR, SPHR preferred

Years of Experience

  • Generally requires 6-9 years related experience with a focus on labor relations
