Project Engineer II

Bayer US LLC's Berkeley, CA, office seeks a Project Engineer II to provide process and project engineering support for the planning and execution of capital projects.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Project Engineer II, are to: 

 

  • creating user requirement specifications for GMP facilities, utilities and equipment based on design documents; 
  • providing technical expertise during the installation/ construction, start up, etc. of equipment, facilities and utilities; 
  • performing project safety and quality reviews; and 
  • applying technical design and problem solving skills using statistical techniques to lead product innovation and process improvements.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values.  More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

  • Must have a master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemical Engineering plus one (1) year of experience in a related position
  • supporting projects in a GMP environment; 
  • sizing of process equipment and developing technical specifications for the equipment including heat exchangers, columns, and pumps, using software  such as HRTI and Sulcol; 
  • developing process specification documents for clean media utilities: purified water, water for injection and clean steam;
  • developing cleaning in place (CIP) and sanitization in place (SIP) process for pharmaceutical equipment and generating user requirement specifications for CIP skid;
  • performing process risk assessments (failure mode analysis), cause and effect analysis and detailed HAZOP analysis using software such as PHAWorks;
  • applying statistical process control tools such as control charts, Pareto charts, hypothesis analysis and design of experiments for process improvement projects;
  • working on international assignments as a part of cross functional teams; and 
  • supporting international knowledge transfer of pharmaceutical manufacturing best practices.
