The Nielsen Media Lab builds new research methodologies and products, using data to empower creators, networks and brands to understand and grow their audiences.  We’re “social scientists with superpowers”, leveraging the latest in emerging technology to take research to new heights. Lab projects have improved ad experiences for consumers, demonstrated the power of new media platforms, and helped brands create content viewers love. Studies we have designed have been featured at conferences and events around the world including the Consumer Electronics Show, Advertising Week, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Mobile World Congress & VidCon.

 

With an ever-increasing range of public, partner and proprietary data sources available at the world’s largest market research company, we are looking for a data analyst to use these resources to pursue answers to today’s most challenging industry questions.  Specifically, this analyst will explore rich person-level behavioral datasets that include TV viewing, radio listening, mobile/online usage, location and more, as well as detailed content-level metadata.

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Research: Managing projects from beginning to end, including data collection, analysis and presentation

  • Technology: Constantly improve existing products and processes with new tools and approaches

  • Marketing: Crafting sales materials to ensure our insights reach their ideal audiences

  • Strategy: Informing the development and growth of research products with market analyses

 

 

Requirements:

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for independent research

  • 1-3 years experience spinning raw data into interesting, meaningful stories

  • Effective communication & comfortable advocating to and coaching peers

  • Perpetually curious, particularly regarding how humans use and experience media

  • Comfortable running multiple projects simultaneously & delivering in a fast-paced, demanding environment

  • Located in Los Angeles and able to work out of our Hollywood office

 

Desired:

 

  • Examples of past projects that feature any/all of the following:

    • data pulled programmatically from public APIs

    • text, image/video or geolocation data analysis in Python

    • dynamic web-based data visualizations in D3
