Pension Investment Analyst

Job Description
Pension Investment analyst will be responsible for the externally managed fixed income portfolio. Responsibilities include achieving portfolio risk and return objectives through effective manager selection and portfolio construction, recommending and implementing new strategies and presenting to senior executives.

The IBM Retirement Funds organization manages over $50 billion in U.S. DB assets and over $50 billion in U.S. DC assets. The organization is responsible for investment strategy, risk management, external manager selection and oversight, internal passive equities, as well as performance measurement, reporting and attribution. The group also supports the management and oversight of non-U.S. retirement plans for IBM's international subsidiaries.

Job responsibilities
· Achieve returns that meet internal targets over a long-term horizon
· Perform manager selection, from origination to investment committee presentation, and offer independent recommendations of the merits of investment opportunities
· Manage new manager onboarding including the drafting and negotiation of investment manager guidelines
· Analyze current and prospective investment managers performance, operational and investment risk, process and organization
· Ensure compliance process is appropriate and resolve compliance issues
· Lead internal and external manager meetings and build quality relationships with managers
· Make a strong contribution in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, exhibiting solid communications and interpersonal skills
· Serve as a fixed income market expert
· Provide research and analytical support for special projects
· Present projects/recommendations to the different stakeholders/committees
· Share knowledge and expertise

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 2-5 years’ experience conducting investment due diligence on asset managers
  • Experience analyzing and attributing investment manager performance
  • Experience in capital markets
  • Experience in Excel analysis/modeling
  • Understanding of benchmarking
  • Fluent in English
  • Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Masters in Finance or Economics
  • CFA Designation
  • 5 plus-10 years experience
  • Experience using BlackRock Solutions, Factset, Bloomberg, Mercers GIMD
  • Understanding of asset/liability management
  • Experience working with an Investment Committee
  • Experience developing, maintaining, producing and analyzing investment manager performance, exposure and risk reports
  • Understanding of operational due diligence
  • Fixed income markets experience
  • Understanding of fixed income benchmarks
  • In-depth PowerPoint knowledge
  • Experience of global custody
