The Payments, Virtual Solutions, and Innovation (PVSI) team includes Consumer Credit Card, Retail Services, Consumer Deposits, Operation, the Innovation Group, Treasury Management, Merchant Services and Wells Fargo Virtual Channels and the professional services teams that partner with these businesses. The Cards and Retail Services (CRS) Controls and Operational Risk team is part of the front line of Wells Fargo’s risk management framework and provides guidance to CRS businesses to support their commitment to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal operational policies and procedures.


Responsible for Controls & Operational Risk (COR) management functions in support of innovative Digital Acquisitions and Payments programs, which includes:

  • Provide operational risk and regulatory compliance support and guidance
  • Identify and evaluate business risks
  • Solve for customer and operational issues
  • Implement & ensure adherence to Corporate policies and programs
  • Measure, analyze and report on the environment and
  • Provide and ensure governance routines and readiness
  • Monitor, assess and enhance business processes and process controls – operational & regulatory compliance controls

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide operational risk and regulatory compliance support and guidance for the Credit Card, Co-brand, and Retail Services Digital Acquisitions and Payments teams and their projects and initiatives
  • Provide project support and consultation in support of change risk and Risk Assessments for New Business Initiatives (RANBI). Engage with Legal and other COR/Corporate partners as needed.
  • Support the development and management of Digital Acquisitions and Payments (tokenization, wallets) innovation focusing on emerging technologies
  • Develop and execute COR Monitoring Activities and Periodic Evaluations to monitor and evaluate business processes and effectiveness of business controls
  • Design and develop testing in partnership with Testing Team to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of procedures, processes, systems and internal controls: Test scope, test scripts, potential issue lists (PILs), compliance activity reports. Proactively build corrective actions based on root cause and identified issues to successfully remediate issues.
  • Issues management and Customer remediation: Identify and assess issues, develop remediation solution with the LOB, issue maintenance, self-identification and pre-validation prior to moving the corrective action to “completed, pending validation”.; and complete customer remediation if needed
  • Risk assessments: Maintain/update existing annual SHRP RA content, assess (accept/reject) new or changed MRs and associated Controls, complete annual review, assess for downgrades with respect to identified issues
  • Partner with PVSI and cross business partners on enterprise-wide digital and mobile initiatives
  • Coordinate production of periodic compliance and operational risk reports (e.g. KRIs, KPIs) for senior management, including trend analysis and recommended strategies
  • Business Process mapping support to ensure key compliance and operational risk controls are identified/added and Monitoring BPRM Inventory and documented process controls once process completed.
  • Business Process and Controls- Evaluate business processes and controls impacted by emerging risk, recommend control enhancements; monitor controls, identify, assess and mitigate process issues and control gaps
  • Lead/Support RCSA, identify and assess risks and controls as front line risk for coverage area

Preferred locations Charlotte, NC; Des Moines, Sioux Falls, PHX, San Fran. We will consider other WF footprint locations.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

Desired Qualifications

  • 1+ year of mobile payments experience
  • Experience developing partnerships and collaborating with other business and functional areas
  • Experience reviewing testing strategies and methodologies; evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, initiatives, products and internal controls; and identifying issues resulting from internal and/or external compliance examinations
  • Ability to evaluate risks and the impact of decisions on an overall organization
  • Ability to identify and evaluate exposures and potential risks
  • Ability to identify gaps through risk based testing
  • Ability to interact with integrity and a high level of professionalism with all levels of team members and management
  • Ability to make timely and independent judgment decisions while working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important
  • Knowledge and understanding of analytical methods used in: root cause analysis
  • Knowledge and understanding of banking: regulations, compliance, policies, process, and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital channel systems, processes, and analytic tools
  • Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting credit cards including Marketing, UDAAP, Reg Z, Reg B, Reg P, third party risk management, info security and other consumer protection regulations
  • Experience leading process development , process mapping and change management in a large complex organization
  • Communication including the ability to effectively document and communicate views of risk across audiences of all levels
  • Ability to successfully partner with management within Legal, Compliance and other risk areas
