Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our nine major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and the Investment Portfolio. Wells Fargo Commercial Capital Risk Management (WFCC Risk Management) provides operational risk, compliance, financial crimes and business risk management services through an optimized model which leverages centralized functions and agile business focused teams to support sound risk management for the Asset Backed Finance, Capital Finance, Commercial Distribution Finance, Corporate Trust Services and Equipment Finance lines of business. The Risk Management team enables efficient and effective execution of Corporate, Wholesale and Line of Business programs, policies and procedures to ensure alignment with the overarching risk management priorities of Wells Fargo while meeting the unique needs of each business.

Wells Fargo Capital Finance (WFCF) is one of the top lead arrangers of asset-based loans in the U.S. with a large and diversified portfolio of close to 2,500 customers and $37 billion in loans outstanding. Capital Finance offers traditional asset-based financing, specialized senior secured financing, accounts receivable financing, purchase order financing, and supply chain financing to a wide range of companies throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. This position will report to hiring manager and will be an essential part of the WF Capital Finance Business Risk Management team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring risk-based programs to identify, assess and mitigate any operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems or external events, while maintaining a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.
  • May provide oversight to an operational risk program.
  • Works with complex business units and provides operational risk expertise and consulting for projects and initiatives with high risk.
  • May provide systems security consulting on complex issues.
  • Designs and develops testing strategies, methodologies and analyses; evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems and internal controls; analyzes business and/or system changes to determine impact, identifies and assesses operational risk issues and assigns risk ratings consistent with established policy standards.
  • Consults with business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manages change.
  • Identifies training opportunities; designs/coordinates the development of training materials delivers or coordinates training delivery.
  • Reports findings and develops business cases to influence senior management on the need for controls to mitigate risk.
  • Manages and/or coordinates production of periodic operational risk performance reports for senior management, including trend analysis and recommended strategies.

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following, and adhering to and if applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 6+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

  • Knowledge and understanding of platform technologies including network, distributed systems, desktop computing, voice, and threat management technologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of Information Security Frameworks and standards (FFIEC, NIST, ISO)
  • Certification in a relevant risk management discipline, including: Certified Information Systems Auditor, (CISA) Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional, (CISSP),  or other risk management discipline certification
  • High degree of initiative coupled with a strong ability to prioritize work and meet accountabilities with limited direction and oversight
  • Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative problem solving skills
  • Highly credible expert in designing and executing automated monitoring/assessment routines
  • Proven communication and collaboration skills across various levels of senior management and others at the executive level, dealing with complex ideas and solutions
  • Ability to influence and consult strategically across a large organization and with various levels of leadership and key stakeholders
  • Ability to influence and create an environment that fosters collaboration and credible challenge across multiple levels of the organization
