The Operational Risk Governance and Oversight team has an exciting opportunity for an Operational Risk Consultant 3. In order to achieve our aspiration of setting the global standard for risk management, this position plays a crucial role in a variety of key operational risk responsibilities. The Operational Risk Consultant 3 must have an understanding of operational risk concepts, issue management, and risk management activities. The consultant will develop, implement, and monitor an operational risk-wide issue management policy and supporting elements, including governance and oversight. We are seeking an ambitious self-starter who is adaptable to working in a fast paced, changing environment. The ideal candidate will also have strong presentation and communication skills, which are succinct, convincing and highly effective.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Executing a SLOD oversight responsibilities to ensure effective compliance to the various components within the new issue management policy
  • Responsible for ensuring data quality in the Shared Risk Platform (SHRP) for Operational Risk Issues
  • Monitoring and overseeing the adequacy and appropriateness of operational risk issue data entered into SHRP, support accurate and reliable reporting and analysis, and work directly with issue owners to correct inaccurate and/or incomplete information/entries
  • Facilitating working sessions of team members from across the enterprise (business, support and corporate risk functions) to provide guidance and oversight on policy requirements and expectations
  • Enhancing existing and developing new job-aids, training materials, and system standards to support the new policy and help business partners consistently apply key concepts
  • Providing oversight and credible challenge to ensure new definitions, processes, and methodologies are executed consistently
  • Creating a change management process to ensure adequate control and oversight on Operational Risk’s issue management program
  • Partnering with the SHRP team to develop user stories for new functionality, participate in user acceptance testing, and provide feedback on additional improvement opportunities


Preferred locations are Charlotte, NC; Des Moines, IA; Minneapolis, MN; but open to all WF footprint locations

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both
  • 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: additional compliance, additional operational risk management, IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience; or a BS/BA degree or higher in business or a related field

  • A BS/BA degree or higher

  • Experience with the development of processes.
  • Experience with implementation of processes and procedure roll out.
  • Current Operational Risk experience
  • Experience documenting procedures and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to build collaborative relationships to support multiple initiatives. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Wells Fargo organization and ability to work across the enterprise with senior levels of management
  • Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and apply prudent risk management principles
  • Ability to offer alternative views or opinions in a professional manner to influence partners across the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk metrics and trends to proactively identify issues as well as recommend and implement solutions to mitigate the risk.
