Responsible for planning and executing the campus's annual charitable fundraising campaign (UMass Amherst Community Campaign - UMACC) as a mechanism for the University to partner with non-profit human service organizations, to unite UMass employees for charitable giving, and to comply with Massachusetts General Laws governing workplace giving programs for Commonwealth employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages the annual UMACC campaign:
    • Develops campaign strategies that recognize the university's culture and the diversity among its organizational units.
    • Develops and monitors yearly campaign budget to ensure maximum efficiency and cost control.
    • Establishes long and short-range campaign goals.
    • Develops, manages and stewards the leadership giving program.
    • Conducts screening process to identify prospective donors.
    • Solicits gifts and stewards campus donors.
    • Coordinates faculty and management level volunteers to broaden donor base and enhance solicitations. Develops, maintains and enhances a confidential system to track prospects, donors and gifts, and to generate reports for distribution.
    • Enhances the existing online giving system to better meet donor needs.
    • Develops and implements a plan for the printing, scheduling and distribution of campaign promotional materials, communications and publicity related to the campaign.
    • Works with other units in University Relations to utilize all campus media channels to promote the campaign, including social media.
    • Plans, organizes and executes special events to promote the campaign.
    • Provides training, motivation and direction to department coordinator volunteers.
    • Formulates and maintains required audit documentation of employee contributions, processing check, cash and payroll deduction gifts. Analyzes campaign progress, campus participation, and results to plan future campaigns.
  • Represents the University with local charitable organizations.
  • Represents the University on state and regional committees as related to strategic planning and decision making regarding UMACC.
  • Works with University Event Managers and other staff in External Relations and University Events to support University-level events as needed.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business-related fields or social sciences.
  • Minimum five years experience in a business or higher education environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
  • Significant experience working with advanced word processing and database computer programs.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and set priorities.
  • Experience with fundraising and volunteer management preferred.
  • Familiarity with higher education protocols and knowledge of University policies, procedures and protocols preferred.
