Johnson & Johnson Vision Surgical, part of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Manager, Medical Information to be located in Santa Ana, CA.


Johnson & Johnson Vision Surgical (“JJVS”) is focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of medical devices for cataract and refractive surgery. As a global cataract leader, JJVS provides intraocular lenses (both monofocal reimbursed and premium IOLs) that are specially designed to provide optimized visual outcomes, phacoemulsification and femtosecond laser equipment to safely and efficiently remove cataracts and a full offering of surgical adjuncts, including sterile viscosurgical devices/solutions. 


JJVS is the global market leader in the presbyopia correcting IOL marketplace and holds strong #2 positions in all other cataract surgery markets in which it competes. JJVS is also the global market leader in laser refractive surgery and provides excimer and femtosecond lasers and advanced diagnostic devices for corneal refractive surgery. JJVS provides its products in more than 150 countries (more than 60 with a direct sales presence) worldwide.


The Manager, Medical Information will be responsible for providing accurate, timely, fair-balanced medical information in response to medical inquiries from internal customers (MSLs, Sales, Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, R&D, PR) and external customers (Eye care professionals).

  • Manages the creation, review, maintenance/updates/retire of standard and custom response letters, global core response documents and FAQs
  • Ensures that clinical information provided is accurate, fair-balanced, based on current medical literature, and provided to requestors within set timeframes
  • Performs literature searches; and in-depth research, analysis and interpretation of medical data as a response to medical information requests from Eye care professionals (ECP)
  • Creates performance reports, metrics, system reports surrounding Medical inquiries
  • Collaborates closely with Subject matter experts (SME), Medical Directors and MSLs in support of business responsibilities
  • Creates and develop reports and summaries generated from major ophthalmology conferences
  • Facilitates contracts with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) performing consulting services with the Medical Information group
  • Provides project support/ vendor management: submission of statement of work (SOW), invoices, purchase requisitions, etc. for third party vendors and contractors liaising with the Medical Information group
  • Coordinates support activities related to Advisory Boards owned and managed by Global Medical Affairs
  • Develops regulatory compliant processes, including SOP, work instructions and other documents as needed and provide medical inquiry process training to internal stakeholders as needed
  • Attends external medical conferences and staff Medical Information booth as needed
  • Have full, direct supervisory responsibilities for the function

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required
  • An Advanced Degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, OD) is preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of relative work experience is required
  • Previous Biotech/Pharma/Med Device experience is required
  • Experience in Global Medical Information/Communication is preferred
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyze scientific literature to develop materials for communication required
  • Strong teamwork and interaction skills to be able to interface effectively with internal and external partners including vendors is required
  • Exceptional organizational/project management skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables at once with a sense of ownership to drive to completion required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent digital proficiencies and experience in innovating medical information initiatives preferred
  • Proficiency with standard desktop computing programs (E-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required
  • Experience with Veeva and Salesforce preferred
  • This position will require up to 10%  travel to represent medical/scientific conferences and other meetings
