Manager, Accounting Research and Policy

Description About the Position: Finance Operations, Manager, Research and Policy leads the research and documentation of technical accounting for complex transactions and monitors and leads the implementation of new accounting standards. Responsible for overseeing technical accounting changes and impacts, for managing the review of external policy standards and for approving policy standards activities. Reports to the Director, Accounting Research and Policy, and leads the research and policy standards in Finance Operations. The manager is responsible for reviewing financial policies and accounting principles in accordance with US GAAP, IFRS and regulatory accounting principles. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Works directly with the business to lead technical accounting research, analysis and documentation on current and proposed transactions and structures in relation to mergers & acquisitions and investment growth of the U.S. operating businesses. Provides perspectives and conclusions under US GAAP, IFRS and regulatory accounting principles on a timely basis. Applies technical standards and analysis to complex accounting practices and transactions. Leads the development, evaluation and documentation of Finance Operations accounting practices and activities. Responsible for monitoring and identifying issues as well as overseeing change impacts. .Researches and monitors activities of all accounting standards and reporting practices to provide proactive revisions to policies and standards. Provides input on policy and implementation guidance for new FASB and IFRS standards. Responsible for creating documentation regarding accounting policies and ensuring implementation into Finance departments. Partners with subject matter experts in Finance Operations to implement, set policy and guidance for new standards, like Revenue Recognition and Leases. Works with Finance Excellence to document policy standards for process and controls effectiveness. Leads the development of, and participates in, technical training to ensure compliance to policy standards. Supports the preparation and review of consolidated and subsidiary financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and IFRS requirements. Responsible for supporting financial and non-financial controls to meet business requirements. Provides counsel to employees, manages third party consultants and contractors, and advises senior leaders as necessary. Builds and manages results-driven teams by taking a strategic and technical view of performance management by involving employees in planning, relationship building, decision-making, forecasting and analysis processes. Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Knowledge and Experience: Accounting Research and Policy Development Technical Accounting General accounting Identify patterns and trends Utility industry accounting background preferred US GAAP expertise, IFRS and regulatory accounting knowledge preferred Process Management Month-end close processes Risk mitigation Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred 5 years in accounting and with increasing responsibility CPA qualification Demonstrated ability to research and apply accounting policy standards Detailed knowledge of finance processes and terminology Managerial experience and experience related to business development activities or M&A.
