Job Description

The Weather Company, an IBM Business, is seeking an operations leader to join its Weather Systems team. Weather Systems is a highly skilled and motivated team of scientists and software professionals responsible for managing and processing the vast amounts of weather data driving our top consumer apps and websites and empowering weather-sensitive businesses worldwide. The Lead will have a diverse set of responsibilities governing weather data procurement and release management components of Weather Systems’ data and product delivery operations.

  • Coordinate IBM’s operational business relationships with its worldwide weather data vendors, including data sourcing, contract fulfillment, licensing, and payments involving private, government, and international suppliers.

  • Coordinate weather data delivery requirements between external suppliers and internal development teams.

  • Act as a release manager for Weather Systems data APIs and products while facilitating software, security and IT systems compliance with corporate policies

  • Coordinate Weather Systems’ business relationships with contract software engineering providers.

  • Develop a broad understanding of all core weather content made available by The Weather Company.

  • Partner with team leadership to evangelize and align the Weather Systems roadmap with business needs.

  • Capture data flows, system interactions, workflows and products in dynamic documentation and visualizations.

  • Ensure corporate processes are followed and provide overall governance, alignment and visibility of end-to-end operations.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 3+ years experience in managing vendor contracts

  • Understanding of the concepts, practices, procedures and deliverables associated with application and system development, implementation and operations

  • A fundamental understanding of IT Systems and Services (e.g. Cloud Services, Virtualization, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)

  • Familiarity with Corporate Security Services processes and procedures

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group including executives, managers, and technical staff

  • Detail-oriented, process-oriented and demonstrates persistence

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • 3+ years experience with weather data formats and industry standards

  • Experience with corporate policies and clearance tools for using open source software

  • Experience with security engineering and scanning tools (e.g. AppScan and Checkmarx)

  • A fundamental understanding of ISMS Principles covering Disaster Recovery, Access Controls, Authentication, Audit, Governance, Risk Management, Security Architecture, Systems Development

  • Experience with JIRA / Confluence, GitHub

  • Ability to understand business motivations and requirements

  • Inquisitive; strong desire to know how things work

  • Solution-oriented and able to problem-solve effectively and proactively

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, operate in an ambiguous environment and react to spontaneous changes in priorities
