Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally.  Our nine major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and the Investment Portfolio. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

Wholesale Commercial Real Estate (WCRE) operates throughout the United States, as well as Canada and the United Kingdom, to deliver a comprehensive platform of financing and banking products for experienced commercial real estate companies including balance sheet lending, CMBS origination and distribution, loan servicing, agency financing for multifamily properties, and debt and equity capital for affordable housing.

Community Lending and Investment (CLI) is responsible for investing debt and equity capital for economic development, job creation and affordable housing in areas of need nationwide.  The vertically integrated group offers a suite of debt and equity products, including Low Income Housing Tax Credits, New Market Tax Credits, construction finance and permanent finance for affordable housing, and Charter School Finance, serving for-profit and non-profit developers and other organizations.

As a part of the WCRE senior leadership team, the Head of Community Lending and Investment will manage a team of 220+ team members across 14 regional offices.

Areas of focus include:

  • Promote collaboration with internal partners (Community Relations, CRA Risk Management, and Community Banking).
  • Effectively lead the development, planning and execution of sound strategies, goals and business initiatives to adapt to rapidly changing market driven environments.
  • Develop and enhance relationships with other Wholesale businesses for the purpose of serving our clients in a coordinated manner, especially with Commercial Real Estate, Middle Market Banking and Business Banking.
  • Generate strong business results in alignment with profitability goals and WF risk tolerance.
  • Develop an integrated and highly engaged organization led by a cohesive management team.
  • Lead the development, planning and execution of business initiatives that drive business results within a complex business platform.
  • Provide inspirational leadership and direction to all team members as well as hire, develop and retain a diverse and exceptional workforce.
  • Drive a culture of responsiveness to deliver a positive client experience.

As a Team Member Manager, you are expected to achieve success by leading yourself, your team, and the business. Specifically you will:

  • Lead your team with integrity and create an environment where your team members feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them.
  • Accomplish management responsibilities which include sourcing and hiring talented team members, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, recognizing and developing team members, identifying and managing risks, and completing daily management tasks.

Location: Open to US domestic locations within the Wells Fargo footprint


Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following, and adhering to all applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of commercial real estate experience; including 5+ years of at the executive level
  • 7+ years of management experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Community lending and investment experience within commercial real estate

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and passion for affordable housing and Community development (including but not limited to: LIHTC guidelines, New Market Tax Credits, construction finance and permanent finance for affordable housing and CDFI’s)
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing on a strategic vision, corresponding business goals and leading a complex business to achieve financial goals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change in an organization; effective at balancing adherence to Wells Fargo & Co policies while supporting the successful execution of the Bank’s business goals and strategies; ability to quickly learn business processes
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, staff and internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated skills in mentoring and coaching leadership talent
  • Demonstrated successful facilitation and negotiation skills, especially with difficult topics; includes willingness and ability to question decisions and escalate issues, where necessary; ability to provide clear and concise updates to stakeholders
  • High degree of initiative and strong ability to meet key responsibilities with limited direction and oversight
  • Able to motivate and engage stakeholders and staff in delivering effective results
  • Record of adaptability, resilience, and effectiveness at engaging diverse teams with differing priorities
  • Extensive experience with matrix management of teams spanning LOB’s, functional roles, and geographies
