Job Description

Wholesale Banking

Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally.  Our five major business lines include Commercial Banking (Business Banking, Government and Institutional Banking and Middle Market Banking), Corporate and Investment Banking (Corporate Banking, Financial Institutions Group and Wells Fargo Securities), Commercial Real Estate, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital and the Investment Portfolio.  We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

The Head of Commercial and Industrial Lending Operations (CILO) will report to the Head of Wholesale Operations, Business Process & Transformation within the Wholesale Banking Chief Operating Office (WCOO). 

Commercial and Industrial Lending Operations (CILO) supports the lending activities of Commercial Banking and Corporate and Investment Banking lines of business.  CILO is responsible for providing a superior customer experience to all stakeholders (external customers, lending team members, senior managers, etc.).  CILO services in excess of $200 BN in outstanding loans and has approximately 2,000 team members across the United States.

This role will focus on the following key areas:

  • Strategic leadership and direction for the Commercial and Industrial Lending Operations organization, which currently consists of three operations support verticals; Business Banking Operations, Wholesale Loan Services and Commercial Real Estate Lending Services as well as supporting the lending activities for the Corporate and Investment Banking business 
  • Strong partnership and alignment with Wholesale Lending Transformation Program focused on organizational alignment, business process redesign and data quality management, as part of the vision to build a simplified and centralized lending platform across Wholesale
  • Evaluating, refining and proactively enabling the creation of Wholesale-wide lending services and utilities to support all Wholesale lines of business
  • Leadership role throughout Flood (FDPA) Remediation effort
  • Continuous collaboration on areas for process improvement and efficiencies, and effectively liaising with key stakeholders and partners, including Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) and Enterprise Global Services (EGS)
  • Provide leadership consistent with Wells Fargo & Co. vision and values

Location(s): Charlotte, NC; Minneapolis, MN; San Francisco, CA or major Wells Fargo Wholesale Banking operational locations may be considered.   

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.



Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of management experience in one or a combination of the following: financial services, mortgage loan administration, or capital markets
  • 10+ years experience with financial services wholesale operations, to include credit experience



Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing appropriate risk and making sound decisions
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across a matrixed organization
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of customer service, implementation, and operations processes and procedures in transaction banking operations environments
  • Experience leading multiple and complex operational functions
  • Management experience as a leader, facilitator, and developer of high performing teams



Other Desired Qualifications
  • Deep understanding of and experience with commercial loan and credit approval processes within large, multi-LOB financial services institutions
  • Proven ability in partnering, collaborating and building relationships with a breadth of stakeholders and constituents including line of business and functional leaders across a complex, matrixed environment
  • Ability to initiate, structure, mobilize, and drive the execution and delivery of complex and large scale organizational and operational transformation
  • Demonstrated success in identifying organizational and operational needs and developing and implementing strategies to address those needs
  • Experience managing appropriate risk and making sound decisions
  • Exceptional leadership track record with ability to assess talent, configure, lead and develop individuals and high-performing teams working on complex cross-organizational, transformational projects
