The HBO Technology team is the group responsible for delivering HBO’s award winning content to our subscribers 24/7; our work enables Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Hollywood’s best movies to be consumed anywhere and everywhere. Within the Technology organization, the Media Technology Project Management team (MTPM), as a part of the Media Technology & Information Services (MTIS) division, is responsible for full stack project management support of programs and projects along HBO’s media supply chain. That includes end-to-end strategic project management for initiatives that span across HBO’s technology organization, as well as tactical embedded project management for HBO’s Media Software Engineering and Media Hardware Engineering. The team is an integral part of HBO’s innovative Technology department which is building the next generation of HBO’s global media supply chain.  

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing a portfolio consisting of infrastructure deployment projects (both on-premise and cloud-based). Within those projects, they will work alongside stakeholder operational departments to identify and document project requirements, collaborate with Media Hardware Engineering teams to identify tasks and timelines, and coordinate schedules with all stakeholders to identify priorities and expectations.  This person will report to the Director of Media Technology Project Management and work within a team of Project Managers and Business Analysts.  The position is based in HBO’s New York City and Hauppauge offices.


The Project Manager will work closely with peers in Digital Production Services, Media Distribution Services, Media Operations, and Engineering to manage project lifecycles for linear network distribution services, non-linear distribution services, post production, and next generation initiatives with a key focus on server, networking, on premise and cloud storage technologies.


  • Manage project through all stages of project lifecycle: from project request, through requirements definition all the way through execution and sign off.

  • Define project scope, milestones, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.

  • Maintain project intake process, project backlog and project prioritization process.

  • Develop full-scale project plans and track progress to keep project on time.

  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path items.

  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and deliver timely status reports so that both members of the project team, as well as project sponsors are aware of project progress and health.

  • Partner with engineering teams to tease out implementation details, identify roadblocks before they occur and redefine strategy for successful, timely implementation.


HBO is looking for a highly skilled individual who has a proven track record of leading complex networking and cloud infrastructure projects to successful completion in a dynamic, rapidly evolving media tech environment.


  • Experience in Technical Program or Project Management including hands-on management of large cross-functional system infrastructure efforts.

  • Experience in storage environments, networking, data center technologies, and knowledge of the AWS platform or of other public cloud architectures and services.

  • Proven experience balancing the requirements and deadlines set from Operations stakeholders with the prioritized backlog of the Engineering teams.

  • Knowledge of digital media processing and distribution supply chains, particularly video processing and distribution.

  • Ability to visualize, capture, and describe media systems and workflows.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or other related technical discipline is preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a project or program manager.

  • Ability to accomplish goals by managing individuals through dotted line relationships across multiple departments to meet deadlines.

  • Very strong presentation, communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills a must.

  • Experience working within an Agile project management framework a plus.

  • Experience with project management tools such as Workfront, JIRA, or ServiceNow a plus.

  • Solid understanding of MS Office suite and MS Visio a plus.

  • Excellent analytical and research skills.

  • Skilled in quickly connecting with and influencing people.

  • Adept in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and managing several projects at once.
