SupplyChain Group Leader




The Group Leader will supervise a medium size teamwhich includes responsibility for both Dock and Material Floorstorage/retrieval operations. Knowledgeable of all jobs within the ProductionTeam. Communicates between shifts and departments to implement best practices,resolve problems, and sustain consistent performance to objectives. Evaluatesgroup quality/performance levels and ensures the group meets continuousimprovement requirements. Work involves significant integration of GMS and LeanPrinciples. Decisions are made based on established policies andprocedures.  Work is performed undergeneral supervision while exercising significant independent judgment anddecision making.  Candidate must possessa strong background and understanding in GMS principles, focusing on Short LeadTime and BPD.

  • Promotes, educates, communicates andfollows up on safety initiatives and holds appropriate employees accountable
  • Maintains safety and housekeeping in area
  • Trains, develops, and evaluates employees
  • Uses appropriate inventory controls andfollow up
  • Responsible for supporting operation’sability for JIT deliver of parts.
  • Responsible for maintaining all floormaterial systems supporting lean material strategies
  • Coordinates material distribution tocorrect Dock Locations for loading/unloading
  • Implements, monitors and maintains GMS SLT
  • Responsible for reprocessing hourly workelements in support of any BPD and planning
  • Meets workgroup’s budget
  • Supports the department cost reductionplan and gap closure requirements
  • Regular contact with others outside thework group
  • Complies with the terms of the local andnational labor agreement.
  • Complies with hazardous materialregulations
  • Manage the receipt, delivery and shippingof productive and indirect materials, as well as finished properties.
  • Provide environment which stimulates teammember’s involvement & personal growth by maintaining communications,soliciting suggestions, development training plan, attendance records,performance improvement, standardized work, support team meetings, jobrotation, and work with UAW to resolve problems.
  • Understand and comply with the terms oflocal and national labor agreements.
  • Inform management and others outside thework group of developments as they occur.
  • Maintains department records.
  • Maintain awareness of standards andprocesses, communicate department quality goals and leverage resources to solveproblems.

  • Act as a role model for Team Leaders (TL)and Team Members (TM) by reacting to issues, changing unsafe work practices andbehaviors and following hazardous material guidelines.
  • Ensure that PPE instructions are present,followed, and instructed during the Job Instruction Training Process.
  • Perform safety observation tours (SOT)with TLs and ensure weekly safety talks are conducted with all employees.
  • Investigate all accidents / near misses /medical visits with TLs and/or TLs. Complete Safety Incident Reports as required.

  • Ability to implement and lead a GMS TeamEnvironment including BPD process and reviews.
  • Strong understanding and ability to coachand teach GMS Principles
  • Excellent Oral and written communicationsskills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to workeffectively with others
  • Knowledge and understanding ofcorporate/unit policies and procedures
  • College degree preferred.
