Group Leader Computational Life Science

The primary responsibilities of this role, Group Leader Computational Life Science, are to:

 

  • Manage, develop and lead two core functions:  data science/data management and bioinformatics comprising a team of approximately 15 as well as outsourced functions with primary focus on Phase 0 and 1 activities;
  • Be a member of Research Technologies function, partner with other senior team members and BLX Indications teams to facilitate data management, storage and analysis as well as training of BLX users and promotion of biostatistics culture across BLX;
  • Be a member of global CLS leadership team, helping to develop collaborative approaches, tools and projects to benefit entire platform.  Work closely with IT functions to leverage skills and resources of this functions particularly around Project Management and IT systems implementation.  Participate in all necessary integration functions as organization matures;
  • Ensure data science excellence within BLX CLS team as well as across BLX Research functions;
  • Formulate technical and strategic objectives that involve a high degree of planning and coordination so that numerous activities converge successfully at local and global levels, such as Data Management Strategy and partnering with Wismar team and support from global CLS;
  • Represent BLX and global CLS at 3rd party and internal collaboration meetings, international conferences and acquisition targets for controlling pests and diseases in plant and promoting plant health.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. with minimum a of 8 years of relevant experience in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics or related field or;
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics or related field or;
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 14 years of relevant experience in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics or related field;
  • Management experience supervising Ph.D. level scientists with 5 years of demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Scientific, technical and social skills for the development of internal and external network contacts of global expert teams;
  • Expert domain knowledge of data science and bioinformatics  including all actual developments like deep neural nets and machine learning;
  • Comprehensive technical understanding of relational databases, network design and systems, servers, and web-based software development;
  • Strong communication skills to translate technical and scientific information and to communicate departmental vision.

*Domestic relocation may be offered for this position.
