Job Title: Global Media Relations and Social Media – TaxJob Rank: Associate Director Function:Business Development, Marketing & CommunicationsScope: GlobalSub Function: Brand, Marketing and CommunicationsReports to: Global Director of Media RelationsPosition Summary: The principal focus of the Associate Director of Media Relations and Social Media – Tax is to help build the global media profile of the EY Global Tax practice and its leaders in support of its reputational and business goals. As part of the Global Media Relations and Social Media team, the role will work closely with the EY Global Tax leadership to create and implement public relations (PR) plans, programs and materials to engage with the global media. It also supports EY’s global network of media relations professionals around in the world in engaging with the media in their respective geographies. The ideal candidate is a polished professional with the counselling skills to advise clients on communications strategies and initiatives and coach on media techniques/initiatives. As the media advisor to the EY Global Tax leadership, the successful individual will have a familiarity with the tax industry, as well as the ability to appreciate the regulations and trends impacting professionals involved in tax. Additional, the candidate has excellent storytelling and writing skills, and will ultimately be considered a valued extended team member of the business team. With long term goals in mind, associate director develops, executes and measures plans, messages and tactics that build toward these aims. This position interacts with senior executives and we are seeking a pro-active, dynamic person who can manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and is organized and creative. The individual also will operate and contribute to the overall goals of the global media and social media team. The ideal candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of the latest content platforms, as well as trends in digital and social media, and strong media contacts. Success in this role will be defined by creating and executing of a robust media and social media plan for Tax and for providing strategic, communications support across wider corporate initiatives. Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Work as an advisor to EY’s Tax leadership and team
  • Develop and execute measurable PR plans and programs in support of Tax’s brand and business goals
  • Position key global executives as experts on key industry issues and hot topics by proactively identifying opportunities for comment or pitching reports
  • Prepare press release, pitches, reports, briefing documents and other materials for launches of global surveys, studies and campaigns; assist with the distribution of press releases and reports via the global media relations network
  • Establish and expand journalist network and a contact program
  • Communicate regularly with the EY global PR network on various initiatives and briefing/supporting them where appropriate
  • Develop a strong PR calendar and track features in relevant media
  • Successfully manage all media inquiries and issues
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Associate Director, Assurance, Tax and TAS on the global MR/SM team.
Knowledge, Competency and Skill Requirements:
  • Ability to guide clients in building effective media programs and engaging with the international media
  • Extensive experience in managing and advising senior leadership on a day-to-day basis
  • An experienced writer of news releases, byline articles and blogs
  • A self-starter with a “can do” attitude and the drive and enthusiasm to get the job done; demonstrate the potential to develop within the organization
  • An understanding of, and keen interest in, print and broadcast media relations; strong media relationship development experience
  • A good understanding of financial news, the deals market across sectors and global investment news
  • Good existing relationships with producers at broadcast media (including CNBC, Bloomberg, CNN and BBC World) and general business and financial writers at key international media (including Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Economist, Bloomberg, Reuters, Dow Jones, Financial News)
  • An understanding and experience of social media activity to support PR launches and leader profiles
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, as this role will involve daily interaction with countries around the globe
  • Initiative, coupled with accuracy and attention to detail; demonstrate reliability
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently; excellent time management and organizational skills
  • A strong team player and lateral thinker, comfortable working collaboratively, virtually and independently
Requirements:
  • This role will be based in London or New York
  • Global travel will be required pending business needs.
Experience Requirements:
  • Experience leading and executing media relations and social media functions
  • Significant management experience
  • Experience leading and influencing large, diverse and virtual high-performance teams
  • Proven ability to influence and build collaborative relationships with senior-level stakeholders
