What role will you play?
  • Great Big Story is seeking a Director of Audience Research & Intelligence to lead data analytics and audience insights
  • This position will sit at the cross-section of audience development and data, connecting the dots between social discovery, content creation, optimization, audience delivery, and consumer insights over various owned and social channels
  • This position is a day-to-day member of the audience development team led by the brand's VP of Programming and Audience Development, and will report strategically to the SVP of CNN Research and Scheduling
 
What will you be doing?
  • This position will be responsible for regular reporting on the health of the business to CNN corporate stakeholders, while focusing intensely on building real-time tools and data sets that power every stage of production--from discovery of potential content to packaging across owned properties and precise delivery on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other social channels
  • The position requires an advanced understanding of multi-channel content delivery, balancing the needs of a traditional site destination with a distribution strategy that is focused on growing audiences natively on offsite platforms
  • This is a leadership position within the organization, seen as an ambassador for the power of data and insights to help make content more relevant and travel farther
 
What do we need from you?
  • Report audience health of the business back to stakeholders such as Ad Sales, Finance, and other executive sponsors
  • Establish KPIs across owned and social channels, and share regular tracking against those goals with content team
  • Work with third-parties and developers to establish a suite of tools and dashboards for real-time social listening and discovery
  • Work with VP of Programming and Audience Development to establish, track and iterate on a Facebook ad targeting strategy across editorial and branded content
  • Collaborate with content teams to use data and social analysis to inform story selection and content optimization, showing story and topic momentum across multiple networks
  • Work with content and development teams to iterate and optimize content for Search
  • Lead qualitative and quantitative primary research projects including competitive landscape studies; targeting/segmentation analyses; and usability testing
  • Manage a small team
     

What do we need from you?
  • 10+ years of experience in research and analytics
  • Deep knowledge of Adobe Reporting, Google Analytics and similar analytics tools
  • Fluency in data management, with a forward-thinking approach that incorporates realities of SEO and Social discovery
  • Expert working knowledge of Facebook, YouTube and other social platform APIs, along with third-party social data solutions
  • Ability to translate and contextualize audience data for content teams  Expert understanding of Facebook ad strategies and implementation  Expertise in A/B testing methodology
  • Experience in working with developers to customize and optimize a custom CMS to enable SEO and social optimization
  • Large appetite for an open, iterative start-up culture
  • People management experience
  • College degree and/or relevant work experience
