Distribution Operator


Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for two (2) Distribution Operators that will be located in Somerville, NJ.

The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies—including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices—that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women’s health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon Surgical Care business combines products and services of two market-leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. Ethicon, Inc. based in Somerville, New Jersey, was founded more than 80 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and effectiveness of open surgery. Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. was created 20 years ago in Cincinnati, Ohio, developing innovative devices that have driven the revolutionary shift from open to minimally invasive surgery that continues to lead the industry today.

Under general supervision and in accordance with applicable specifications, the Distribution Operator performs any and/or all the following duties. You will keep equipment and work area clean and orderly. Perform any other work, related in nature, to assure efficient receipt and delivery of items. You will be responsible for compliance to GMP/ISO as it pertains to daily activities within Ethicon.

You will:
  • Receive bills of lading and other documents (packing list) for incoming materials, verify and process on ARIBA system quantities and item descriptions for accuracy and completeness against purchase orders.
  • Check and record priority packages, and expedite as necessary to deliver to addressee.
  • Open cartons, boxes or other containers of materials, supplies, parts equipment, etc., and check contents against description and quantity on bill of lading and Purchase Orders for accuracy.
  • Operate in an orderly manner and maintain equipment, tooling, solutions and area in a high level of organization ad cleanliness.
  • Prepare and make proper distribution of receipt trackers on ARIBA system per standard procedures and follow up on missing or incomplete Purchase Orders.
  • Move material received from platform top available space in temporary storage area for delivery to end-user
  • Supply Quality Assurance with documents from incoming raw materials, facilitate processing.
  • Receive material from warehouse or any other source, sort and stage materials for shipment and check affiliate shipping schedule when necessary.
  • Choose all like country shipments, appropriate cartons, drums, containers and packing materials to place materials in.
  • Check accuracy of all invoices for invoice number, customs value, raw material codes, quantity, labels and any other pertinent information needed.
  • Pack as necessary; use specific packing requirements per country when applicable.
  • Process invoices for raw material ordering and move material to shipping dock on carts, pallets.
  • Select proper container to avoid damage to material and segregate items per customs and other requirements.
  • Operate United Parcel Service meter machine to rate small parcel packages domestically; instructions per shipping order.
  • Prepare international and domestic Federal Express shipments as required.
  • Keep packing supplies stocked, notifies Supervisor of stock outs.
  • Separate paperwork and forward to traffic clerk for processing and transports filled carts, skids to shipping dock for pick up by carriers.
  • Maintain compliance with all GMP, ISO regulations, safety procedures and quality system requirements as they pertain to manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. Compliance Wire, ADAPTIV, etc.).
  • Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives, Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care.
  • Accurately complete records and production reports as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation).
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • This position pays $25.06 per hour and is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement in a union environment.


Qualifications
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of related work experience in a GMP, GDP environment.
  • Must be able to do simple arithmetic and possess basic computer skills.
  • Experience using a warehouse software such as JDE and Ariba is required.
  • CDL experience is preferred.
  • Capable of operating a manual and motorized hand truck is required.
  • Must be able to transport finished containers from work area to staging area using power lift trucks.
  • Ability to work and interact with co-workers to accomplish company goals in a team environment is required.
  • Must possess analytical/problem solving skills.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs, push, pull, reach, stand, kneel, sit, walk, climb and grasp is required.
  • This positions requires a daily commute to Somerville, NJ Monday – Friday for the working hours of 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM and/or 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM with over time and weekends as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a union environment.
