What part will you play? 
Working on the News Solutions team, the Director of Marketing Communications will lead the charge to best position CNN, CNN Digital brands and HLN in the marketplace. The Director, Marketing Communications reports into the VP, News Solutions – Content Partnerships and the role is based in NY.

What will you be doing?  
  • Work directly with VP, News Solutions to proactively develop annual strategy around marketing collateral, roadshows, case studies, custom research, sizzles and thought-leadership among other special projects and initiatives. Serve as point person for driving global consensus (alongside VP, Solutions).
  • Work closely with the VP, News Solutions to craft the sales marketing message, narrative and presentations for all CNN, CNN Digital and HLN brands; owning these projects and associated collateral through roll out once VP has provided approval.
  • Own the development and roll-out of all (or most) collateral tied to large-scale and complex opportunities and tentpoles; being responsible for not only creating materials but ideating around multi-channel / multi-platform ways to grow these opportunities - continuously pushing boundaries and thinking of new, compelling and sellable ideas.
  • Own the development of product marketing collateral – understand and articulate sales benefits, strategies, competitive advantages liaising with sales strategy/product/content/ops and identifying new ways for brands to leverage our products including (OTT/VOD, social, audiences, targeting, apps, external platforms, etc).
  • Own and create GTM trade marketing calendars including internal and external for both brand and products.
  • Stay abreast of, schedule, plan and pre-empt needs from sales partners throughout the organization, ensuring we are always on top of the creation of materials and setting proper expectations for delivery.
  • Build out thought leadership initiatives, working hand-in-hand with research partners and rallying internal team members to drive forward; developing a plan and cadence with sales leaders to roll out and deploy.
  • Help lead training throughout the org alongside Dir/Sr Directors- serving as a brand ambassador to teams less familiar with our brand positioning and offerings.
  • Think outside of what we are currently doing to ensure there are no gaps in what we can offer to support the sales teams (types of collateral, processes, efficiencies, systems, documentation, etc.), then build a plan and activate on ideas to push approved ideas forward.
  • Keep track of and manage maintenance and refresh of News Content Partnership website and associated collateral (case studies, reel, imagery, etc.); ensuring site remains fresh at all times and is being used by teams.
  • Be the main point person within team for Style Guides, templates, fonts, imagery, etc. as well as ensure maintenance of tools to share collateral (internal documentation, libraries of ideas and material)
  • Stay abreast of industry trends such as brand safety issues, viewability, limited commercial breaks, growth of OTT, etc -- ensuring that when necessary, these trends are addressed within necessary collateral.
  • Actively contribute in brainstorms, bringing new ideas to the table - whether directly or indirectly related to marcomm. Areas may include: creative solutions, process improvements, efficiencies, team relationships, event development, etc.
  • Additional projects as needed such as internal presentation development with senior leadership and other special projects as the pop up. 
What do we require from you?
  • Min. 8-10 years related marketing experience with an emphasis on brand marketing and positioning. Must have created positioning decks from scratch for other brands.
  • Passion for CNN and the news industry in general
  • Proven track record and experience with creating marketing plans for roll out of new collateral; understanding cadence of sales cycles
  • Able to handle a complex environment with multiple stakeholders; excellent with relationship building
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to meet deadlines; does not cut corners but gets the job done at the highest level of output
  • Previous managerial experience – position does not have direct reports but may in the future; in addition, position works extensively with various members at different levels across the team
  • Upbeat, can-do, proactive and positive attitude, calm under pressure and completely comfortable in an ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – strong presentation skills; no problems standing up in front of a large room
  • Detail-oriented, organized and extremely creative – always pushing boundaries of innovation-- with an ability to handle multiple projects effectively
  • Strong understanding of digital, social, emerging and TV capabilities and offerings
  • Expertise in PowerPoint and Keynote and other Microsoft Office or presentation products
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt to internal tracking systems and procedures
  • Industry knowledge and strong interest in media trends, consumption habits and social media, a plus
  • Ability to lead and manage projects independently
