Director, Competitive and Market Analysis, International Insurance

About the position

Prudential International Insurance (PII) conducts business in twelve countries in Asia and Latin America competing against both multinational and domestic financial companies. The Marketing & Strategy Group of PII conducts research and provides business insights to PII’s management team. The function requires synthesizing a large amount of information from a broad array of sources to provide actionable intelligence (not just the “what” but the “so what”). The incumbent develops and executes processes to monitor PII’s external operating environment in PII countries and regions, including the frontier market of Africa. He/she oversees the collection and organization of data on key competitors and markets leveraging a variety of database tools and other Prudential resources. The unit’s deliverables include regularly scheduled reports on PII operations and markets, as well as ad hoc special projects. The incumbent synthesizes and analyzes data on competitors (both traditional and emerging disruptors) and customer trends in order to deliver integrated insights to key stakeholders. The analysis and insights produced by the unit are used by the functional leaders in PII, as well as the business leaders in the county operations, to help assess and develop business strategies. The incumbent also prepares briefing packages and presentation material for internal and external key stakeholders including Prudential’s Board of Directors, which present data in an impactful way, using data visualization and other relevant methods. The material produced by the unit is highly visible and requires strong quality control process and procedures. General responsibilities
  • Prepare regularly-scheduled reports on competitor results and other market developments, including quarterly PII Operations reports and competitor profiles
  • Conduct ad hoc secondary research using a variety of data sources
  • Conduct financial analysis of competitors and other companies of interest
  • Supervise analyst staff, as well as rotational interns
  • 5 years of competitive analysis and/or related experience
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience required
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large amounts of information and distill relevant business insights
  • Strong research and financial analysis experience
  • Strong written and oral communications
  • Expertise with specialized databases such as S&P Cap IQ; staying abreast of new tools to gauge consumer trends (e.g. Zignal)
  • Mastery of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Power BI
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and data quality
  • Superb organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • International business experience a plus
  • Ability to speak Japanese or Spanish a plus
