TIAA is looking for a Director, Associate General Counsel to join the Institutional Financial Services Legal team to be the primary point of contact for the TIAA Endowment & Philanthropic Services (TEPS) business area.


Attorney to support the endowment, foundation, planned-giving and charitable gift management needs of TIAA's institutional clients, including corporate and board support. The candidate must have significant expertise in handling investment management matters and will be responsible for investment advisory issues, product development, and distribution and marketing of investment advisory services, including both separately managed accounts and unregistered fund products, and other products and services offered by the TEPS business. Applicant should be familiar with alternative investments and private funds as well as related aspects of broker-dealer regulation. This is an opportunity to work and grow with rapidly expanding business and make a significant impact.


  • JD degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of a state bar is required.

  • Experience with Investment Advisers Act, including advisory issues relating to offering investment advisory services and creating, managing, and distributing unregistered funds and products is required.

  • Experience in all aspects of investment management legal practice, at either a law firm, or in-house at an investment advisor or broker-dealer entity is required.

  • 8 + years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with endowments and foundations, outsourced CIO business, planned-giving and charitable gift management is a strong plus.

  • Experience with alternative asset-classes is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with distribution and sale of unregistered products.

  • Managerial experience.
