Data Scientist Senior Team Lead (1802141) – Research Triangle Park, NC

Where the Chemistry Happens
We are seeking an experienced and motivated leader for BASF’s Data Science and Biometrics team in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina. Your role covers management, coaching and development of the RTP team, while providing strategy and support to BASF’s broader Digitalization in R&D initiative.

As part of an enthusiastic global team of digital experts, you will support BASF’s worldwide Bioscience Research activities with a focus on crops, their pests and diseases, and microbial data.

You will advise internal partners on image analysis, biostatistics, and data science questions and conduct comprehensive analyses. You will apply your experience with all aspects of biostatistics, starting with DOE and ending with data presentation. You will leverage your familiarity with linear-, generalized linear -, linear mixed effects-, and multivariate models to find solutions for the BASF Bioscience Research community.

You will provide guidance and inspiration for your team in Research Triangle Park as you maintain and improve a cutting-edge data evaluation and visualization platform. Your knowledge in next-generation methodologies, such as machine learning, will help to keep your team at the forefront of data science. Experience collaborating with international and interdisciplinary team members will prepare you to listen, communicate, and network effectively with regional and global R&D teams to drive innovation.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Formula for Success
  • Leveraging your education in Statistics, Biosciences, Bioinformatics, Mathematical Biology or a related field along with your extensive experience working in industry or an academic environment you will lead the planning and coordinating of experiments with plant, insect, or microbial data sets, managing extensive project work
  • As a motivational people leader, you will manage, coach, and develop your team while providing hands-on scientific project support by directly applying your knowledge of advanced applied statistics and image analysis
  • Your strong communication, interpersonal and teaching/mentoring skills will aid in bridging between different sciences disciplines (e.g. Statistics, Computer Sciences and Biology)
  • Successfully engaging across the organization you will work in a fast-paced international team setting with a strong customer focus
  • Programming proficiency in R, R-Shiny, Python, C++, Java/Java Script, knowledge of No-SQL- databases and API development and experience working in a GLP environment would further support your success in this role.
