Cost Manager Quantity Surveyor - Syracuse, NY

Description National Grid is actively seeking highly talented Cost Managers / Quantity Surveyors for immediate employment in our Waltham MA, Syracuse, NY, and Melville, NY offices. This position will be a member of the growing Complex Contract Management team which is within the Capital Delivery organization. The Complex Contract Management is team is responsible for post award contract management of large complex gas and electric projects, cost assurance, change order review/reconciliation, contract compliance, contractor performance and more. Key Accountabilities: Ø Provide contract support, guidance and advice to the project delivery teams to insure compliance and contractor costs are robustly managed across the portfolio of projects. Ø Review, validate and reconcile/negotiate change orders associated with complex gas and electric construction projects to ensure National Grid achieves value for money spent. Ø Identify early warnings, and assist with and monitor appropriate risk mitigation. Ø Support the Project Manager with site progress and work completion status enabling accurate and timely cost and schedule update. Ø Regularly review and monitor contractor progress of the assigned portfolio of projects to verify the costs and progress of job as compared to the Earned Value report. Ø Support Project Manager to verify forecast accuracy based on crew efficiency, change impacts, etc. Ø Ensure contract compliance through effective contract management activities Ø Monitor contractor performance and review with contractors on a regular basis Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Requirements: Ø Construction project experience– understanding of the nature of construction projects and the effective / professional approach to delivery. Ø Construction contract knowledge – ability to interpret and apply contract clauses to ensure National Grid’s commercial interests are protected. Ø Claim assessment / valuation – ability to independently assess / verify the cost and schedule impact on the project or event Ø Cost estimation – ability to provide input to forecast the cost to complete a project Ø Project management understanding assessment – ability to review and understand project to assess validity, deliverability and assess impact of delays Ø Attention to detail Ø Negotiating skills Ø Utility experience preferred Ø Bachelor Degree required.
