The CCFS Category Leader is a critical role for the J&J businesses and will lead major categories in Capital and Construction Projects, Facilities Management, MRO and Real Estate. These categories are highly complex, disparate and require extensive interaction with key business stakeholders, critical supplier leadership and other segment/functional leadership. The leader must blend Execution, Thought Leadership and ability to bring forth and drive transformational programs in the space. Specifically, the leader will develop 2025 Vision for the Category which will be a step-change from ‘today’ to a strategic transformation roadmap and action plan. This should include new disruptive trends, such as, digitalization of construction/capital design & developments of the building management space, emergence of new business models – driven by the shift from fixed capital investments to service offerings, explore non-traditional partnerships etc. The Category spend is baselined at around $3 Billion. This Category Leader will lead a global team of 20 plus people in the Business Unit and 15 associates in the Global Services team (direct reporting in GS) – creating a ‘One CCFS Team’ and approach. In this critical role, the leader will be a member of both the Supply Chain Procurement Leadership Team and the Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) Leadership Team. Congruent to the roles of a Category Family Leader, the following key characteristics are critical success factors:

  • Thought leadership in next generation Category strategy (2025 Vision) including the strategic transformation roadmap
  • Ability to drive disruptive thinking – digitalization of construction/capital design &developments and new business models
  • Deep understanding and application of new methods for partnering such as Vested Contracting and Multiple Company arrangements
  • Strong portfolio management understanding and use of prioritization and programmatic tools
  • Proven track record in development and execution of third party sourcing
  • Leadership in a technical environment
  • Development of meaningful sr. level relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in working with and facilitating should-cost modeling
  • Thought leadership in Supplier Diversity in leveraging current strength to the next level

The CCFS Category Leader will identify, develop and direct the implementation of Procurement goals and strategy consistent with the business strategy and requirements. Plan and direct the organization’s activities and deliver against targets for financial performance, quality, and service and compliance adherence. The Category Lead will provide Global and Regional Leadership for developing end-to-end category strategy development, maintaining key relationships within the business and managing key supplier relationships. The role must connect and lead resources to deliver on key projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop 2025 vision, strategy and transformation roadmap for the category or categories of spend consistent with broader business strategy for both the short-term and long-range requirements of the businesses to deliver the maximum value for J&J
  • Leverage out-in perspectives to introduce disruptive trends – digitalization of construction/capital design & developments of building management space, emergence of new business models (shift from fixed capital investments to service offerings, explore non-traditional partnerships, etc.
  • Bring deep subject matter expertise and understanding of industry/market dynamics to identify, develop and direct the implementation of Procurements goals and category strategies
  • Execution of category strategies to include: sourcing strategy execution, negotiations, contract implementation and performance against established targets – such as, financial, service, reliability, quality, innovation, and growth commitments
  • Develop and drive the Procurement vision, goals and strategic framework in collaboration with the stakeholder community
  • Interface directly with CEOs and other supplier leadership to assure alignment of J&J’s objectives are met, including quality, reliability, innovation and cost
  • As part of operational and business requirements gathering, partner with Business Engagement Leaders to deliver annual value improvements
  • Understand long range requirements of the business partners and engage in strategic planning and partnering to ensure alignment
  • Build and maintain relationships with leaders within J&J for broad range of perspectives and information critical to the development of optimal approaches and solutions
  • Manage supplier relationships, communicate changes to category strategy, execute joint collaborative initiatives, and monitor supplier contract negotiations
  • Develop deep supplier relationships with strategic suppliers to include data review and analysis, performance management and development and improvement of end to end value, and bring innovation to the business
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of processes, policies, guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, and Business Operating Principles
  • Conduct performance reviews/serve as People Manager for subordinate leads
  • Manage & prioritize portfolio of Procurement segment (Pharm, MD&D and/or Consumer) specific initiatives
  • Lead team meetings and provide updates to Global Procurement Leadership
  • Escalate issues that may impact the Global Procurement organization


Qualifications
  • Required Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree
  • A minimum of 15 years of related working experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience within a Procurement environment
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience managing direct reports
  • Multi-country and multi-sector experience preferred with experience across geographies of varied sizes and businesses
  • Strong leadership, vison setting, communication, influencing, collaboration and talent development skills
  • Customer Orientation - building and maintaining strong relationships with J&J senior Management
  • Strong project and change management capabilities
  • Strong Business Acumen with the ability to set strategy direction
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill with ability to confidently present complex information
  • High level of proficiency with core Procurement skills (e.g., supplier management and performance, supply market analysis, Category Management, Procurement Excellence, etc.)
  • High level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community
  • Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., businesses, Procurement LT, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain); has "presence"
  • Proven track record in attracting, developing talent and proven team building skills
  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant influencing roles
  • Prior experience in leading business transformation – from inception through successful implementation
  • Demonstrated capability in leveraging disruptive technologies, business models and emerging trends in facilities management, construction and capital management
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to effectively and efficiently move through transitions
  • Deep subject matter expertise and understanding of industry/market dynamics
  • Leadership to implement mega supplier negotiation techniques – required
  • Proven outsourcing best practices (especially 1st generation) - preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing environments with a specific emphasis on maintenance preferred
  • Deep understanding of capital equipment & construction project management cost drivers – required
  • Intimate knowledge of real estate trends (i.e. market indices, lease terms, differences by region, etc.) preferred
  • The ability to perform up to 30% Domestic and/or International travel required
