The Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. of Johnson & Johnson are currently recruiting for a Communications Senior Manager, Consumer R&D. The position is based in Skillman, NJ.

The Senior Manager, supporting the Consumer R&D Communications Leader, will raise awareness for the leading research occurring within the Johnson & Johnson Consumer organization. The Communications Senior Manager in this global role will also provide direct support to the Head of Consumer R&D, sit on the R&D leadership team, and have a large degree of independence in project management. This role, which is part of the broader cross-sector R&D and J&J External Innovation Communications team, will communicate the scientific underpinnings behind the organization’s impact innovations. In addition, the Communications Senior Manager will support early-stage collaboration announcements and events, and will lead internal communications activites for the worldwide R&D group. The Communications Senior Manager will also drive effective communications coordination across the Consumer Commercial Communications team as well as the Enterprise R&D/Innovation Communications team.

Responsibilities

• Directly supports the Global Head of Consumer R&D and the Consumer R&D Leadership Team in overseeing and leading a global team and ensuring effective coordination, consistent processes and standards across the team, thereby maximizing alignment, reputation and business value/output as well as the team’s capabilities, people development and return on investment for the R&D business.

• Counsels and guides senior business leaders and teams in their strategic and personal communication.

• Implements integrated internal and external communi¬cation and issue management strategies with a large degree of independence to drive a fast-growing, high-profile global R&D organization.

• Support highly impactful, sensitive (material) partnering-related announcements – potentially involving financial- and IR-related comms.

• Works extensively with the Consumer Commerical Communications team to deliver for the business and to strengthen J&J Innovation Communication and Global Communications & Public Affairs (GCPA) functions.

• Develops strong relationships and acts as a trusted advisor to senior science and commercial strategy leaders; coaches and guides them to develop their ability to engage and inspire the organization and external audiences, in a diverse, global environment.

• Understands, escalates and collaborates to address potential issues in the global environment that could affect the reputation of the Enterprise, Consumer R&D and / or our businesses and products; implements appropriate issue prevention, management and mitigation strategies.

• As a member of the broader R&D/External Innovation Communications team, help drive global PR campaigns to advance J&J’s reputation with key stakeholders beyond the Consumer business.

Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree is required

• An advanced degree in Communications or Journalism is preferred

• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience leading and managing communication in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency is required

• Deep experience in Consumer and / or Science Communications is required

• A track record of successful and inspiring leadership and influencing without authority is required

• Strong experience in crisis/issues management is required

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global matrix environment is required

• Deep understanding of traditional media, digital and social platforms and strong experience dealing with national and local lay, professional/trade and social media is required

• Experience in managing budgets and resource allocation across large critical projects is preferred

• This position will be based in Skillman, NJ and requires up to 30% domestic and international travel
