Communications Leader, Investment Banking & Capital Markets

Job Description

Leading a team with four direct reports, this senior communications opportunity reports to the Head of Wholesale & International Communications and will focus on leading a media relations and public relations strategy for the bank’s growing Investment Banking & Capital Markets group. Additionally, he/she is responsible for the Wholesale Bank’s Commercial Real Estate and Corporate Banking groups, and also provides issues management/reputation risk mitigation for occasional situations involving the Wholesale Bank and its customers.  It’s preferred that this highly visible position within Corporate Communications be located in Charlotte, NC or New York City.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Partner with the leaders of Wells Fargo Securities (the investment banking, capital markets arm of the bank) to develop and execute on a strategic public relations/media relations program to positively position the business and its senior leaders in targeted general media and trade media publications
  • Develop and implement the strategic public relations program, which entails media placements in both print and broadcast, for the analysts and economists of Wells Fargo Securities
  • Work with leadership of the company’s Commercial Real Estate group to develop and implement a compelling public relations/media relations program in both the U.S. and select international locations to reinforce the bank’s industry-leading CRE business
  • Utilize issues management/crisis communications expertise to support the two businesses listed above, as well as the company’s Credit and Risk groups to manage any media relations-related issues
  • Serve on the Wholesale & International Communications leadership team to help ensure the entire function performs at the highest levels possible
  • Interact with colleagues from other lines of business to ensure a “One Wells Fargo” approach to any similar public relations and issues management opportunities
  • Effectively manage a team of four to deliver outstanding results on behalf of our internal clients

The Wholesale & International Communications group is responsible for supporting approximately 45 Wholesale Bank lines of business with their public relations and team member communications in the U.S. and 42 countries and territories around the globe.


Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of communications experience in one or more of the following disciplines: public relations, media relations or corporate communications
  • 7+ years of management experience

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working for a bank or public relations agency and supporting Investment Banking and/or Capital Market clients
  • Experience developing integrated communications strategies and plans that align with business objectives
  • Experience with issues management and crisis communications
  • Experience developing and placing compelling content and leveraging multiple channels for creative storytelling
  • Experience leading, high-performing geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams within a matrix organization
  • Experience prepping and counseling senior executives for high profile/high stakes media interviews
  • Experience presenting information in a manner that persuades, educates, and enhances understanding at all levels
  • Experience building strong relationships with national business and trade news media
