Commercial Credit:

Commercial Credit approves, coordinates, and oversees credit and related risk management activities for the enterprise’s commercial credit practices, serving as a critical element of the organization's second-line of defense.  Together with line of business partners, Commercial Credit owns and is accountable for understanding credit risks associated with the enterprise’s commercial credit activities and for ensuring business activities do not exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

Commercial Credit leads the setting of credit policies and credit risk tolerance for Corporate Credit and Market Risk in alignment with corporate statements of risk appetite and the monitoring of current and emerging risks against those limits. We ensure practices established by Wholesale businesses are consistent with applicable frameworks, policies, and standards, and escalate instances of excessive risk and misalignment to appropriate levels.  We monitor and sometimes lead remediation actions designed to reduce credit risk or correct instances of misalignment.

The Position:

WFCF is a leader in commercial finance and provides traditional asset-based lending, specialized junior and senior-secured financing solutions along with factoring, trade finance and distribution finance products. This position will manage the credit risk and credit officers responsible for Wells Fargo Capital Finance.

Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Providing leadership in the management of the WFCF credit portfolio to reporting team members and WFCF line of business professionals, partnering closely with front line risk management officers and relationship/deal teams
  • Maintain appropriate credit quality and portfolio health through proper, timely and thoughtful credit risk decisions, recommendations, and approvals
  • Minimize problem assets and shape the portfolio to balance risk and return
  • Identify, manage and inform senior management about portfolio trends, portfolio risks and concentrations
  • Maintain conformity with company/regulatory policies and procedures
  • Planning, organizing, and directing credit policies, process, procedures and transactions to help the line of business accomplish business goals
  • Play a key role in directing management in the development and maintenance of financial background information and credit analysis
  • Monitor and review group's loan underwriting and portfolio management performance for senior management/regulatory agency review/ audits, providing leadership in relationship to policies, analyzing new business prospects and leading and supporting initiatives of the business
  • Developing and directing guidelines on credit limits for others, as well as approving specific transactional risk
  • Establishing management and administrative procedures to ensure adherence to policies
  • Inspire, develop and lead a diverse group of team members
  • Ensure individual and team goals align to goals of the go forward Commercial Credit organization
  • Promote a culture of openness and inclusion
  • Work with peers, leaders and HR Partners to ensure team has the tools and resources needed for success
  • Acquires, develops and retains talent; develops team to ensure strong pipeline of diverse future leadership talent at all levels of the organization
  • Reinforces a strong credit culture and strengthens team member engagement
  • This position will report to the Group Senior Credit Officer Commercial Credit and work closely with the Head of WFCF

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of lending experience
  • 10+ years of management experience

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of the asset based lending markets
  • Knowledge of factoring and supply chain finance
  • Prior experience of bankruptcy financing
  • Developed time management and partnership capabilities and a demonstrated proficiency in handling multiple deal reviews and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and evaluate critical risks for a credit portfolio
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven success identifying, developing, and motivating team members
  • A complete understanding of Wells Fargo's credit culture and approach to risk management/compliance and reporting
  • MBA preferred
