Business Manager (1804639) – Iselin, NJ

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to be responsible for providing leadership, direction and management for commercial, technical, business development, marketing and product management activities in the Custom Catalyst business in the Americas region and globally. In this role, you will profitably manage and optimize the existing business as well as identify and grow new business areas. You will also provide functional and disciplinary leadership to a Product Technology Manager.

  • Demonstrating your proven ability to identify business opportunities and develop appropriate strategies and relationships that deliver both top-line and bottom-line results within a cross-functional, matrixed organization where building alignment is critical to success, you will utilize the forecast/S&OP process for developing and carrying out a plan to meet our customers' ongoing catalyst demands globally while maximizing the profitability of the business.
  • Communicating effectively, you will establish and maintain high level relationships to existing key customers, target customers and process licensors.
  • Your ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality will be essential as you safeguard Intellectual Property (IP) and know-how owned solely by third party customers and IP/know-how owned jointly by BASF and third-party customers (strict separation from IP and know-how of BASF market catalysts and other third-parties).
  • Successfully engaging across the business, you will effectively lead, manage, influence product management, technology management, sales/account management, manufacturing, supply chain and R&D teams through generating data, strategic fit and consensus building to support Custom Catalysts business' strategic growth objectives.
  • Your proven financial skills (P&L understanding, profit optimization) and robust analytical skills are vital as you will profitably manage and optimize the existing business including providing strategic direction, managing pricing and negotiating contracts (including long-term supply agreements, marketing alliance agreements, licensing agreements and R&D agreements).
  • Leveraging your education in a technical discipline (Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred) and your professional work experience in new business development, marketing, sales, strategy, product management, asset management and/or business management, you will lead the efforts for growing the Custom business including the following: performing robust business case evaluations; establishing 10-year sales plans/budgets; working with sales to develop and carry out action plans; coordinating technical activities and requirements; managing R&D projects; maintaining existing customer base; and new business development (new customers, new catalyst applications/technologies).
  • Your strong project management skills and the ability to drive the process across multiple functions will be a valued asset as you take responsibility for the project management of custom catalyst R&D including guidance/instruction of researchers carrying out custom R&D to implement the programs required to support the plan's growth. You will support the Global Business Director in the establishment of the global policies and procedures, placing the appropriate firewalls within the business and R&D organization and monitoring implementation and maintenance of this firewall system.
