Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. We focus on three key risk areas: credit risk, operational risk and market risk. We help our management and Board of Directors identify and monitor risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and take appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

We have a new opportunity for an individual to join the Strategic Enterprise Risk Management (“SERM”) and its Enterprise Risk Governance & Project Management Office to be responsible for and help coordinate the company’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee (“ERMC”) and Board level Risk Committees.  The ERMC is the primarily management-level forum for considering and deciding on WFC’s highest priority enterprise-wide risk issues, including those escalated to it by its customer facing, risk-generating groups and key and cross-functional risk programs. ERMC also supports and assists Wells Fargo’s Board Risk Committee in carrying out its risk oversight responsibilities. The individual selected for this role will interface with senior risk leaders across business groups and Corporate Risk as well as with regulators and internal auditors.

The purpose of the Board Level Risk Committee is to assist the Board of Directors in fulfilling its responsibilities to oversee the company’s enterprise-wide risk management framework and Corporate Risk function, including the strategies, policies, procedures, processes and systems, established by management to identify, assess, measure, monitor and manage the major risks facing the company. In addition to being responsible for the ERMC, this individual will also help to oversee the Board Level Risk Committee and its Compliance and Technology Sub-Committees.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

 1) Serve as Corporate Secretary for Enterprise Risk Management Committee

  • Partner with ERMC Chairperson, voting members and other participants to enable the ERMC to oversee the management of the company’s key risk types including cross-functional areas.
  • Support the ERMC in carrying out its responsibilities of understanding and evaluating risk, addressing escalated issues, actively overseeing risk mitigation and informing and advising the Board Risk Committee and Operating Committee regarding emerging risks / enterprise-wide risk issues and management’s assessment of the effectiveness of the Company’s enterprise-wide risk program, including corrective actions taken by management to address risk issues and the implementation of risk management enhancements.
  • Be responsible for all Corporate Secretarial aspects of running the ERMC in partnership with Chairperson and other risk team members including, but not limited to: maintaining the charter, committee guidelines, committee process documents, committee materials, agenda planners, action trackers, escalations, attendance trackers, etc.
  • Coordinate, attend and run ERMC meetings; and take meeting minutes, draft agendas in conjunction with Chairperson and relevant stakeholders; Coordinate presenters, review materials to provide feedback and put together final deck for committee participants; provide feedback to Chairperson and presenters on materials to go before ERMC; maintain committee documentation.
  • Manage a team of Management-level Committee liaisons within the Enterprise Risk Governance & Project Management Office for purposes of enhancing committee functioning and best practices; Participate in information sharing, coordination efforts and escalation and tracking of issues raised to ERMC or to other committees / individual through the ERMC.
  • Assist with the monitoring and tracking of escalation and follow up items for presentation or review by the respective management level committee
  • Review meeting materials in advance of designated management level committee meetings for consistent use of required templates and format and request updates to materials when necessary
  • Contribute to policy updates relating to committee management

2) Assist and Be Responsible for Board Level Risk Committees

  • Lead coordination and execution of Board Level Risk Committee and Subcommittees’ governance by partnering with supporting and executive liaisons, senior leaders and corporate secretary
  • Provide senior guidance and consistency in committee meeting materials through assisting with agenda planning, reviewing board materials and reports requested and content brought to the Board level.
  • Serve as point of contact for answering questions from Board members and other committee participants regarding presentations, committee processes and requirements.
  • Participate in preparatory calls and meetings with committee stakeholders to discuss agenda items, materials and ad-hoc requests for deep dive sessions
  • Contribute to policy, standards and/or procedural updates relating to the Board Level Risk Committee and its subcommittees

3) Contribute to other Strategic Enterprise Risk Management activities as needed

  • Support other activities and ad hoc projects as needed

Location:  San Francisco office preferred or within the Wells Fargo footprint; if outside San Francisco, must be willing to travel to San Francisco monthly
 



Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: project management, implementation, or strategic planning
  • 5+ years of management experience



Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting senior level leaders/executives
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to lead projects/initiatives with high risk and complexity
  • Ability to manage initiatives including: detailed planning, process management, and documentation
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Ability to develop partnerships and collaborate with other business and functional areas
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy skills
  • Management experience in a virtual or remote environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills



Other Desired Qualifications
  • 10+ years of financial services industry consulting and/or regulatory experience
  • Experience as Corporate Secretary of Enterprise wide Risk Committee; working directly with Chief Risk Officer
  • Ability to influence executive decision-making and successfully negotiate critical issue resolution related to program initiatives
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • Experience working on a Risk Governance Committee and understanding requirements of formal committee
  • Ability to work and communicate with and challenge company senior management and company risk leaders within the committee context.
  • Ability to represent the company/business units to internal and external auditors, FRB, OCC, FDIC or other regulatory agencies
  • Experience as a team manager (8+ years)  with ability to develop and train a high-performing team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to take complicated topics and translate into an easily readable document.
  • Ability to influence key partners to accomplish desired results
  • Willingness to travel to San Francisco monthly (if not already in San Francisco)
