The primary responsibilities of this role, Bayer Crop Science Industry Post Doctorate – Biologics, are to:   

 

  • Plan, align, and conduct robust in vitro and in planta experiments in the lab and greenhouse to identify and rank microbial strains with anti-bacterial potential;
  • Ensure stakeholder satisfaction for experimental alignment with objectives;
  • Collect and analyze data, and provide analysis and feedback about experimental results to supervisors, highlighting important results and defining next step experiments;
  • Develop assays and other experimental techniques that characterize test material performance using innovative technologies, and promote findings to support Disease Management platform priorities (i.e., Discovery, Project, and Product Support goals);
  • Integrate computational and statistical analyses and feedback loop towards strain selection and screening improvements;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specialized laboratory and scientific techniques relative to area of expertise;
  • Responsible for lab equipment specific to research expertise, including acquisition and maintenance when applicable and responsible for assigned lab areas;
  • Coordinate and cooperate on research activities with peers, supervisor, and subordinates.  Communicate effectively by listening, documentation, and presentation;
  • Maintain a broad understanding of instrumentation and scientific principles;
  • Work with external service providers when necessary for more efficient and effective method development and experimental evaluations;
  • Survey scientific activities in academia and competitor research activities relative to this objective.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values.  More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: 

 

Required Qualifications:  

 

  • M.S. in Plant Pathology and Molecular Biology with at least one year of relevant experience; or
  • Ph.D. with no relevant experience;
  • Research experience in Plant Pathology and Molecular Biology with broad understanding of scientific principles;
  • Ability to conceptualize, design, and execute experiments that address research questions;
  • Proficiency with experimental design, statistical analysis, and scientific instrumentation;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Computer skills in MS Office (i.e., email, word processing, presentation, and spread sheet programs) and other scientific programs as needed;
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary/multicultural research team;
  • Track record of continuous improvement in processes;
  • Prior experiences working in a team environment and ability to adapt to the atmosphere of a dynamic research organization;
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Microbiology skills as an upside, especially with bacterial diseases;
  • Previous industry experience, or experience with microbials/biologicals;
  • An understanding of agronomic approaches, cropping production systems, and value chain in agriculture.
