Associate or Engineer or Lead Engineer, Gas Transmission

Description About the Position : Performing engineering evaluation of the Gas Transmission System including: integrity assessments, risk management, data collection and analysis, performance tracking, records management, and fitness for service reviews. Assist in implementation of a comprehensive Transmission Integrity Verification Program consistent with existing and proposed regulations for over 1200 miles of intrastate natural gas transmission pipelines. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Identification of pipeline risk and development of mitigation strategies. Conduct engineering review and analysis of integrity related system issues. Perform and Support field assessment of gas transmission pipelines by External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA), Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) & Inline Inspection (ILI). Assist to Administer Company Weld Policy. Analysis of metallurgical anomalies in pipeline systems. Engineering Support of NDE. Engineering Support of In-Situ Field Testing of Pipeline systems. Assist to maintain register of existing pipelines and corresponding linear attributes. Perform regulatory reporting on pipeline assets. Track and report on key performance indicators related to critical asset classes. Provide technical support for cathodic protection of gas facilities and update procedures where necessary. Review and approve specifications, work methods, and policy documents covering the installation and maintenance of gas transmission pipelines. Review and approve defect assessment and repairs of gas transmission pipelines. Provide updated training/review of specifications, methods and equipment for engineering, field services, and other National Grid personnel involved in transmission line pipe defect assessment and repair. Perform risk management and risk modeling utilizing PHA, LOPA, QRA and other risk analysis tools and models. Project development and management. Cost estimating and tracking. As-built project documentation verification. Perform process safety assessments. Develop life extension strategies of existing assets. Perform fit for service reviews and failure analysis. Coordinate class location studies and HCA determinations. Some travel required. Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Material Science) from an ABET accredited program/engineering school is required. Position is commensurate with experience; Three years of Gas Transmission assessment and/or construction related work experience is desired. Professional Engineering License or EIT Certificate desired. AWS certification desired. Cathodic protection experience or NACE certification desired. Experience with Risk Management, Risk Assessment, and Risk Mitigation desired. Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices desired. Knowledge of transportation of natural gas industry practices, standards, and legislation desired. (E.g. Title 49 CFR Part 192, NACE, ASME B31.8, B31G, API, etc.) Experience performing risk assessments utilizing PHA, LOPA, QRA, and PRA techniques preferred. Experience with relative risk ranking utilizing Kiefner or Mulbauer or other risk modeling tools preferred. Self-motivated and have basic knowledge about natural gas delivery system, codes, design, construction, installation, testing, inspections and maintenance of pipeline assets. Able to travel overnight outside of normal work area as needed. Able to work overtime including nights/weekends/holidays for emergencies or other special projects. General knowledge of mapping systems desired. Experience with GIS (Smallworld, ESRI, Arc-Fm; Arc-GIS) preferred. General knowledge of welding practices in the pipeline industry desired. Familiar with pipeline assessment methods: External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA), Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) & Inline Inspection (ILI).
