Analyst, Distributed Energy Development

Description About the Position: Reporting to the [Director] of National Grid Ventures’ Distributed Energy team, this position will support the exploration of strategic opportunities to develop new investment and growth within the US distributed energy landscape. As part of a small, nimble, and growing team within National Grid’s non-regulated business, the Analyst will engage, analyze, and monitor existing and emerging distributed energy sectors and companies (including solar, energy storage, microgrids, and electric vehicles), where s/he will be expected to develop deep industry expertise. Duties will include data and financial analysis, and the associated communication of key insights to internal stakeholders and executives. The position is based in National Grid’s Brooklyn, NY office, and may require periodic travel. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Draft presentation slides and papers to communicate key insights, research, and recommendations Survey and evaluate the competitive landscape in relevant sub-sectors Follow and understand noteworthy technology and sector trends, emerging business models, and market trajectories Track and communicate peer and market M&A activity in applicable sub-sectors Identify and quantify opportunities and risks in pertinent sectors Monitor key industry research sources and publications Facilitate knowledge and best practice sharing within National Grid Assess regulatory developments and communicate significant information and potential impacts with relevant internal parties Assist in the development of financial models and evaluation (quantitative and qualitative) of specific opportunities Obtain first-hand insight from industry participants Ad-hoc projects and tasks Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: 1-3 years of previous consulting, corporate development, or investment analyst experience Demonstrated interest in energy, utilities, and renewables Understanding of financial concepts and ability to read financial statements High facility with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, including basic financial modeling skills; desire to develop and improve these skills is essential Proven aptitude to source, summarize, and critically evaluate quantitative and qualitative industry data from technical and jargon-heavy fields Solid written and visual communication skills for effective slides and memos Excellent presentation skills and ability to condense complex/technical content in a coherent and compelling story, tailored for different audiences Ability to engage both external partners and National Grid business employees to maximize learning, business benefits and the Company’s reputation “Team player” approach: ability to work effectively within a small team while navigating multiple stakeholders within a large corporation This position is one of National Grid’s career path roles which provide for promotional opportunities within and across salary bands as you develop and evolve in the position by gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
