Trade Compliance Manager, Export

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Trade Compliance Manager, Export CLS North America, to be a located in Skillman, NJ.

Johnson & Johnson Customer & Logistics Services (CLS) is a global Supply Chain organization that supports operating units across all of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies. CLS strives to deliver an exceptional customer experience through leading critical customer facing-functions such as distribution and transportation. In addition, CLS oversees critical business enablers, including how we gather and manage supply chain master data, safe and secure supply chain practices, product identification standards, and market/channel access capabilities. CLS supports all three sectors of Johnson & Johnson: Medical Device & Diagnostics, Pharmaceutical, and Consumer Products. This team is represented in multiple countries, and continues to grow globally in both visibility and responsibility. The CLS team reports to Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain and partners closely with groups throughout the supply chain organization.

The Trade Compliance Manager, Export is responsible for the NA Regional Trade Compliance program capabilities and enhancements for J&J companies to include implementing the Global Trade Compliance (GTC) program strategies and systems.

This individual is responsible for delivering multi-year Export Compliance strategic plans across the Consumer, Medical Device, and Pharmaceutical sector businesses. As the NA Leader for Export, this position will deliver the resolution of complex legal and business issues by collaborating with Worldwide and Regional leaders. This individual creates forums for sharing knowledge and best practices within the region and across regions for Export Controls and regulations.

Deploy Global Compliance standards for Exporting Companies (40% of time)

  • Monitor progress made to remediation plans and collaborate with Worldwide and Law Department as required to deliver corrective and preventative actions
  • Manage the continuous deployment of Global Trade Compliance standards across companies and functional areas
  • Prepare and deliver executive presentations and communications updates as needed. Escalate compliance and resource needs to senior leaders when appropriate.
  • Lead Export program for NA to include standards, training modules, and compliance assessment questionnaires. Partner with Worldwide Trade Compliance team and Regional Leads to
  • Monitor and report progress updates for standards, training and compliance assessments by company
  • Utilize Global Trade Compliance assessment tools to identify compliance improvement opportunities
  • Develop and implement remediation plans and procedures to address program enhancement opportunities
  • Monitor progress made to remediation plans and collaborate with Worldwide and Law Department as required to deliver corrective and preventative actions
Manage Compliance to Trade Regulations (25% of time)
  • Monitor, report, and update procedures to comply with US Customs, United States Department of Commerce, United States Department of State and United States Treasury Department
  • Partner with J&J business units, when applicable, to submit voluntary disclosures
  • Lead Export Filing Documentation and review strategy improvements
  • Analyze and interpret export regulations and maintain current knowledge of changes
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Export Trade Compliance audits and lead departmental efforts before, during, and until successful audit closure
  • Monitor and Communicate emerging regulation changes

Lead Anti-Boycott and Export Controls’ Compliance Program (25% of time)

  • Develop and lead processes reviews being utilized by J&J Exporting companies for export controls
  • Provides support and guidance to the J&J Exporting companies to ensure compliance
  • Develop and deploy program and training for Denied Party and Sanctioned party screening
  • Provides access to training and awareness programs to business units to enable them to effectively manage export issues
  • Reviews sufficiency of local resources and training with business units to address export control risks
  • Establish metrics and escalation of issues to Worldwide Global Trade Compliance and Legal Counsel when applicable

Manage Export Clearing Agent Requirements and Performance (25% of time)

  • Develop Freight Forwarder requirements and document in standardized operating procedure to include all of the activities and services to effectively perform export clearance on behalf of the J&J companies
  • Lead the selection criteria for approved Freight Forwarders and partner with sourcing leaders throughout selection and implementation.
  • Monitor and manage processes to secure and retain Powers-of-Attorney for export companies with Freight Forwarders
  • Manage third-party compliance service provider relationships by setting performance expectations and holding compliance service providers accountable for performance
  • Develop service level agreements and work instructions for Managed Service providers
  • Develop documented procedures, and escalation plans to produce key performance metrics

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required, an advanced degree is preferred
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of import, export, compliance or quality experience is required
  • Licensed Customs Broker and/or Certified Customs Specialist highly preferred
  • Ability to drive results in a highly complex and rapidly changing environment is required
  • Strong collaboration skills and able to influence without authority
  • Knowledge and experience in transportation related technology, security, compliance, and import/export processes is preferred
  • Previous people leadership or supervisory experience is preferred
  • Project management experience is required, PMP certification is preferred
  • Lean, Six Sigma Process Excellence training and/or Certifications is preferred
  • Strong partnering experience demonstrated by creating new relationships that drive cross-functional process improvements
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed, global organization is critical for success
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner to functional leaders in upper management and external partners
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and ability to embrace learning regulatory requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time in US and Canada
