Technology Commercialization Manager - RES0000960

Purposeof Position:

  • Enable GM to license theirIP, and enable global R&D to commercialize new innovative technologies bythe following:
  • Improve General Motors valueproposition for all technology / intellectual property (IP) assets managed
  • Lead all aspects of thirdparty royalty licensing process
  • Manage and maintain allaspects of the licensing contract management database and royalty reporting
  • Lead in thedevelopment of commercialization / IP strategies for maximum value creation forGM technologies 
MajorResponsibilities:
  • Maintain and developrelationships to facilitate communications across GM
  • Enable thirdparty royalty licensing transactions in and outside of the automotive industryas appropriate for GM
    • Supportthe Patent Review Boards and Record of Invention Evaluations forcommercialization potential
    • Leadin identifying /cataloging IP for potential licensing
    • Leadin the identification of potential partners
    • Leadin the development of internal and external business case  and marketing packages to promote licensing
    • Leadin development of licensing terms / negotiations
    • Responsiblefor post deal management (royalty reports, agreement mgmt., relationship mgmt.,etc.)
  • Lead as business strategy andexecution advisors in the development of a business plan with actionable goals forR&D’s internal start up projects as well as other R&D technologies toensure maximum GM value creation
    • Activitiesinclude: Competitive IP due diligence, commercialization strategies, thirdparty strategy (support partner identification,  deal formation, negotiation, deal approvals, postdeal/relationship management), etc
  • Provide general business / agreement/ IP support as needed to R&D
  • Maintainand develop relationships to facilitate communications across GM

Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding ofbasic finance
  • Proven licensing capabilities,including 5-7 years experience in business environment.  IP/licensing experience
  • Ability to develop a businesscase and strategies to advance IP towards a commercial product
  • Ability to manage risk, and ambiguity
  • High level of analytic /business evaluation ability with difficult and unusual problems
  • Demonstrated ability to useMicrosoft Office software
  • Excellent interpersonal and  communication skills verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projectsin different technology areas in a professional and time sensitive manner; goodproject mgmt skills
  • Able to secure relevantinformation and identify key issues
  • Ability to foster “trust” relationshipsto solve difficult problems and enable difficult discussions
  • Understanding of generalautomotive technology as well as technologies of interest in other industries
  • Understanding of licensing, IntellectualProperty and confidentiality

Education / Training: 

  • Required: Bachelor’s in a technicalfield, such as science and engineering. 
  • Preferred: Advanced degree in Business Administration
