Systems Engineer I-Regional Data Center


As a data center Systems Engineer, you'll be working with a team in charge of large amounts of computer information via servers and networking appliances. Data center Systems Engineer preferably hold a bachelor's degree in a related field and/or have extensive experience working with computer hardware and enterprise business software (databases, spreadsheet, email and graphics programs); project management experience is a plus.

  • Assist in supervising of employees in facilities that contain mid to large production environments containing servers, storage and networking appliances.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and inventory, customer service and employee management, and may require training in several specific technical areas.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance tasks such as managing and installing custom upgrades for customers; replacing cables, components and accessories; maintaining records and drawing As-Built schematics of the center.
  • Customer support responsibilities might include escorting customers through the center on tours, responding to customer inquiries and coordinating with other organizations.
  • Administrative duties might include scheduling employee shifts, planning for capacity changes, maintaining corporate databases and ensuring compliance with government regulations, data center owner rules and regulations and local fire authorities’ regulations.
  • Provides periodic 'on call' support to assist data centers with employee access and remote “hands” trouble shooting and service.
  • Uses established change management processes, requiring operational procedures be performed with minimal customer impact, (i.e. during established maintenance window).
  • Generates reports on employee remote hands usage, monthly power usage and other critical infrastructure related subjects to management.
  • Perform other duties as requested by manger.

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner.
  • Basic ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand data center utilizations as it relates to power usage, heating and cooling, space availability and remote employee’s time tracking.
  • Basic ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures.

  • Bachelor's degree in Internet technology, management, computer science or a related field.

  • System administration experience (UNIX & Netcool) 1 - 2 years
  • Database support experience 1 - 2 years
  • Enterprise Application experience 1 - 2 years
