System Administrator - (Search Re-opened)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.      Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.

 

2.      Two (2) years’ experience configuring computers for network operations, planning technology requirements, deployment and installation of computer related resources, computer network technologies and the internet is required.

 

3.      Excellent communication skills, both written and oral is required.

 

4.      Strong customer-service orientation is required.

 

5.      Analytical and problem-solving skill is required.

 

6.      Effective analysis and reporting skill is required.

 

7.      Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.

 

8.      Ability to work under moderate pressure of schedules, deadlines, and requirements for accuracy is required.

 

9.      Ability to monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, test and tune the operating system is required.

 

10.   Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on listening and questioning skill is required.

 

11.   Ability to think in a logical manner, organize and analyze data is required.

 

12.   Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1.      Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Central Alabama Community College. 

2.      Monitor and perform capacity planning on the servers and related IT environments.

3.      Provide reports that forecast needs for hardware growth.

4.      Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.

5.      Function in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, supporting and assisting other employees.

6.      Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedure.

7.      Contribute to and maintain system standards. Develops standard procedures and schedules for the maintenance of the operating systems.

8.      Serve as a project team member to support activities regarding applications that run on the servers.

9.      Install applications, develop system administration scripts, plan version release upgrades and patches.

10.   Develop, write and modify routine computer programs. Tests and modifies existing or new utility programs and routines.

11.   Install and configure UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems.

12.   Complete performance tuning of the servers and backups of systems using an enterprise backup system.

13.   Interface with computer manufactures to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of their software and related changes.

14.   Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks, including telecommunications and other technology services.

15.   Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

16.   Responsible for identifying opportunities that contribute to the improvement of quality, safety and cost, as well as customer and employee satisfaction.

17.   Perform daily system monitoring by verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes by reviewing system and application logs. Verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

18.   Provide security administration and supports the development of processes and policies surrounding server administration.

19.   Work closely with security analyst in performing regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

20.   Upgrade and configure system software that supports GIS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.

21.   Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.

22.   Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.

23.   Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.

24.   Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis.

25.   Upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configures/adds new services as necessary.

26.   Maintain the systems software at current release levels.

27.   Monitor and maintain multiple application server systems including telecommunication support.

28.   Provide regularly scheduled maintenance on all Application Server platforms (patches/upgrades).

29.   Monitor and review application programs to insure the most efficient use of computer resources.

30.   Assist in analyzing test results to detect or explain programming errors or causes of program malfunctions in system software.

31.   Maintain college wide directory services.

32.   Track and document projects/tasks utilizing ticketing system.

33.   Provide 24/7 technical support for servers and services.

34.   Establish priorities to ensure deadlines are met.

35.   Adhere to local, state and federal policies and procedures.

36.   Provide data and report analysis to support the IERC (Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Compliance) function of the college.

37.   Perform other duties as assigned.

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee must follow all safety requirements carefully and wear any personal protective equipment applicable.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
